Pavillon blanc - Bordeaux 2023
Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux
Sold in the 19th century under the name « Château Margaux vin de sauvignon », it has existed under the brand name « Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux » since 1920 and its label has not changed since that date.
The eleven-hectare vineyard is located on a very old parcel and planted only with Sauvignon Blanc. Today it benefits from the new wine cellar’s ultra-modern installations designed by Norman Foster.
The finesse, complexity, richness and the length in the mouth of Pavillon Blanc are incomparable for a wine produced only from Sauvignon. The recent vintages have opened up new horizons in quality, ageing capacity and style which has become more mineral and much more complex.
The 2023 vintage
After a relatively mild and dry winter, the vineyard awoke in early April. Spared from frost, the spring featured frequent but light rain, except for a particularly rainy fortnight in June. These conditions made maintaining good vineyard health somewhat challenging. However, thanks to the expertise of our teams, we ensured healthy foliage, guaranteeing optimal grape ripening and a beautiful harvest. Unlike 2022, this year saw only one heatwave in August, just when the berries are most sensitive to heat. Meticulous sorting during the harvest allowed us to select the best fruits.
Pavillon de Margaux Blanc 2023 offers a bouquet of complex falvours and aromas and a well-rounded palate. Plot selections were even more rigourous in the vineyard. Grapes from nearly 10 hectares are vinified in about twenty distinct lots, each contributing to the wine's unique character. The trials undertaken over the years to create the second white wine, The Pavillon Blanc Second Vin and its launch with the 2022 vintage, have enabled Pavillon Blanc 2023 to reach new levels of precision and excellence.
