The 2019 Les Grands Chênes was cropped at 45hL/ha between September 23 and October 10, matured in 25% new oak and bottled in April 2021. The nose has tightened and turned more classic in style, offering less blue fruit, and less floral, perhaps. The medium-bodied palate retains the tobacco-infused black fruit that I remarked upon from barrel. The persistent, saline finish just needs a little more precision. Give this two or three years in bottle.

Wild raspberries, blackberries, cloves, bark and tea leaves on the nose. Medium-bodied with firm, fine tannins. Earthy and a little austere with a tight finish. Better in 2024.

Opaque purple-black colored, the 2019 les Grands Chênes comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant plum preserves, warm cassis and baked black cherries scents with touches of tar, bouquet garni, lavender and cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate is packed with crunchy black fruits with a lively line of freshness and firm, ripe, grainy tannins, finishing on a savory note.

The 2019 Les Grands Chênes is fabulous. Rich, inky and potent, this brooding Médoc from Bernard Magrez packs a serious punch. Black cherry, licorice, smoke, graphite, scorched earth, spice and leather add to a feeling of gravitas, but it is the wine's depth that impresses most. This is a terrific showing.

Falling under the Bernard Magrez lineup of wines and from a site in the Médoc, the 2019 Château Les Grands Chênes offers a beautiful, classic bouquet of red and black currants, cedar pencil, dried flowers, and a hint of tobacco. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it's beautifully balanced, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's certainly in the same league as the 2018.

The 2019 Les Grands Chênes was cropped at 45hl/ha between 23 September and 10 October, matured in 25% new oak. It has a concentrated, opulent bouquet with layered aromas of black cherry and blueberry with a top note of violet. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins that frame the tobacco-infused black fruit. The finish is very cohesive and sustained. This is a superb Les Grands Chênes, one of the best that I have encountered at this stage.

Full-bodied, rich and a bit oaky, the wine has a lot of smoke, fruit, wood and volume. Give it at least 5 years in the cellar. 89-91 Pts

This shows plenty of chocolate and hazelnut to the dark-berry character. It's medium-to full-bodied. Some earthy and dusty undertones.
