Franc Mayne - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2021
Château Franc Mayne, a real gem to discover in Saint-Emilion!
It was a case of love at first site that launched a new chapter in the history of Château Franc Mayne. Seduced by the charm of this 7-hectare property surrounded by vines and the promise of a wine that could be improved, the Savare family took over the management in 2018.
Having already held investments in Bordeaux’s vineyards for more than 20 years, they have found the same commitment, values and expertise that are crucial in their own industry. This triptych enabled the family company to become a world leader in fiduciary printing. Undertaking the same quest for excellence, the family has laid the foundations for a long-term commitment to this Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé.
Personally involved, the new owners bring fresh drive and energy which has its origins in a two-fold motivation: to create a wine with a strong personality that reflects the richness of the terroir, and to maintain the property as a unique setting where one can experience the essence of the world of wine.

2021, a challenging vintage full of lessons
The delicate conditions of spring and early summer exacerbate the characteristics of the different terroirs, their failings for some, but above all their strengths and their extraordinary complementarity. A gold mine for our understanding of the vineyard in this penultimate year of organic conversion.
Our 100% Merlot grape variety responded well to these later and cooler conditions than previous vintages. Technological (sugars and acids) and phenolic (aromas, colors, tannins) maturities are in phase.
The harvest takes place from September 23 to 29. And thanks to the very precise work of the pickers, the quality of the vatted grapes is perfect.
Tasting Note:
“The wine presents a sharp violet color with purple reflections. It has a nice intensity. The nose opens with notes of cherry, peony and iris, then enriches with a spicy hint of pepper, cocoa, to finish on a greedy milk jam touch. The wine is both fleshy and precise on the palate. The attack is ample. A fine and tight tannic frame, with a beautiful density stretches on a fresh and persistent finish. The notes of kirsch and fresh cherry are back, completed with a discreet hint of blood orange”.
