The 2021 Fonroque is generous, bursting with aromas of cherries, mulberries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and charming palate that's fleshy but vibrant, with a gourmand core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. It's the first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, and that shows in greater harmony and precision.

Finesse styled, medium-bodied, bright, crisp red berry oriented wine with sweetness and purity to the red fruits, as well as softness in its texture. The only drawback here is its lack of length. Perhaps with a bit of aging, the wine will gain more on the backend. Drink from 2024-2036. 88-90

The 2021 Fonroque offers ripe wild cherries, cassis and violets on the nose, which is quite opulent considering the vintage, though it needs a little more delineation. The palate is ripe and slightly saccharine on the entry. There is definitely some CO2 here. Moderate depth, but it needs more grip on the finish. I have had better vintages in recent years.

Purpurrot. Die Nase ein Traum, ungemein klar und rein, herrliche Frucht, das ist ein Gedicht, darüber florale Töne, ein Hauch weisser Pfeffer, keinerlei Holzdominanz. Im Auftakt frisch und fruchtig, rund, leicht cremig, wird dann immer straffer, die Frucht ist delikat, wird von markanten Gerbstoffen und einer prägnanten Säure gestützt, hallt im Abgang lange nach, endet rotfruchtig. Ja, ich habe ein Faible für dieses Weingut, doch probiert es selbst, das ist auch in diesem schwierigen Jahre die pure Verführung. 2025-2040 (Verkostet im April 2022. Floral, violette et iris, cerise noire, cassis, le bouquet est d'une élégance racée, d'une gourmandise assumée avec une réelle finesse et un éclat aromatique frais. La bouche est droite, tendue, charnue avec des tanins frais et veloutés. Salinité racée en finale avec la puissance contenue des argiles de Fonroque. Alors que cette propriété était généralement légèrement boisée en primeur, le léger changement de style et le millésime lui siéent à ravir. Bravo !

Supple and charming, the 2021 Fonroque is a medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping wine redolent of cherries, blackberries, rose petals and licorice. Fleshy and charming, it's attractively layered, with supple tannins and a persistent finish.
