The Todeschini family, a wine lover family


If the origin of Château Mangot, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, goes back to more than 5 centuries, its history takes a real turn in the 80's when the Todeschini family took over the management of the estate. Today, Karl and Yann Todeschini are the new generation that proudly represents the estate. Karl is a man of the field and passionate about nature, he manages the daily viticultural aspect, while Yann with his creative spirit, brings to Mangot a commercial dynamic and ensures the strategy and communication. A duo of brothers with only one goal: to give pleasure and emotion through wines of authors. 

An ecological approach to produce wines with a genuine identity 

A great wine is first and foremost made in the vineyard. Based on this principle, the Todeschini brothers have revolutionized their vineyard management. Officially certified "Organic Farming" since the 2020 vintage, the vineyard is in its third year of conversion to biodynamics. They are also working on the biological activity of the soil and on the nutritional balance of the plant in order to stimulate its natural defenses. This gardening work allows them to carry out vinifications with very little intervention and to produce sincere and expressive wines of great purity. 

In 2022, Mangot was ranked among the Grand Crus Classés of Saint-Emilion.

The 2022 vintage

Agility and adaptation are the climate keywords for the 2022 vintage.
Cold nights at the end of April fortunately caused no harm. In July and August, our mulches and untilled soils with plant cover enabled us to limit the impact of the summer drought by maintaining constant moisture levels.
This is a most SINGULAR vintage.

Aromas of sweet cherries, petals and licorice introduce the 2022 Château Mangot, a medium to full-bodied, dense and layered wine that's suave and multidimensional, its concentrated core of lively fruit built around sweet, powdery tannins. It's the finest Mangot I've tasted to date, and a decade from now, readers will have a lot of fun including this in blind tastings against more famous names.

The 2022 Château Mangot is based on 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. It's a medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant Saint-Emilion offering lovely red and blue fruits, some subtle sappy herbs, celery seed, floral nuances, fine tannins, and beautiful overall balance. I always find a green, herbaceous edge in these wines, yet this certainly brings beautiful fruit and has plenty to love. I suspect it will evolve for two decades with ease.

65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon Le bouquet de Mangot affiche de la fraîcheur, di calcaire, de la finesse, et de la maturité, le tout dans une logique d'harmonie. Juteux en attaque, le vin est porté par le bois et par des tannins encore quelque peu anguleux. Un vin tonique, énergétique qui mérite un peu d'épanouissement. 2027-2042 94/100

The 2022 Mangot has a pleasing bouquet with pure black cherry, blueberry and iris flower scents. The oak is nicely integrated and opulent but not overpowered. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, good sapidity and a little compactness on the finish, but it should loosen up with time. This is one to keep an eye on.

Quite a fresh, mineral and lively St.-Emilion that hooks me with garden herbs, brambleberries and an engaging twist of white pepper. Lots of wet stones and flowers as well. Very structured and compact, this has vibrating, chalky tannins and a broad, lengthy finish. Tight and dense, but freshness and balance are in check. Drink from 2027.

The 2022 Mangot is a bold, sensual wine. Blackberry jam, licorice, new leather, chocolate, spice and espresso are all beautifully amplified. This potent, explosive Saint-Émilion has a ton to offer.

Perfumed and floral on the nose, lovely intensity. Juicy and supple, a little sombre, lacking a touch of vibrancy, but the tannins are so well worked, clean, linear, straight, gorgeous salty edges give the freshness and tension. Really well delivered, just missing an extra punch. But nice frame and elegance. Liquorice and slate on the finish.

It's hard not to be moved by the delicate and light aromas of cherry, plum, and blossom that burst out of the glass. The clay-limestone soil has brought many benefits to Château Mangot, with a palate that is not only refreshing and pleasant but also surprisingly crispy in acidity. The salty and savory finish cleverly extends the layers of aftertaste, drawing to a close with a touch of delicate violet fragrance. This is a young and enchanting Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé that captures your heart.

The 2022 Mangot has a plush nose of black cherries, blueberry and violet aromas, quite showy but it retains decent delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, powdery tannins, mocha-tinged black fruit toward the finish. It should drink well after 3-4 years in bottle.

Que de fraîcheur et d'expression fruitée dans le bouquet de Mangot 2022 ! Les nuances calcaires et l'intensité fruitée créent une exceptionnelle symbiose et rendent le vin très invitant ! L'attaque assume parfaitement les promesses du bouquet. Le vin est juteux, dense, linéaire et soutenu par une structure tonique, énergique tandis que les tannins, aux grains fins, assurent parfaitement les arrières. Un vin éclatant, fruité, salivant et persistant. Superbe réussite.

Newly classified and deservedly so. Quite a bit of oak – toast, vanilla, coconut but a lovely rich and dark violet-lifted blueberry and mulberry fruit – very intense. Pure, precise, intense and densely concentrated and charged with fresh fruit juice. The frame is tightly structured, its parameters reined back and impressively delimited by the limestone tannins accentuating the feeling of concentration and intensity. Juicy. Very long.

The 2022 Mangot is another impressive wine from this château. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, sage, mint and blood orange. Mangot is no longer the brooding powerhouse it once was, but it is still a pretty heady Saint-Émilion. In 2022, it’s the balance of fruit intensity and energy that impresses most. Tasted three times. Drinking window : 2025-2042

A wine that gets my nod as this dynamic estate's finest to date is the 2022 Mangot, a medium to full-bodied, ample and layered wine evocative of cherries, dark berries, licorice and rose petals. Deep, concentrated and fleshy, with a vibrant core of fruit and a long, mouthwatering finish, this seamless, complete Saint-Émilion is sure to be one of the best purchases of the en primeur campaign.
