Las Pizarras – Pinot Noir - Aconcagua costa 2022
Las Pizarras, a Burgundy approach in Chile
Las Pizarras project, initiated in 2014 by Viña Errazuriz, embodies a commitment to uncovering the extraordinary terroir of the Aconcagua Coast. Rooted in a terroir-centric philosophy, Las Pizarras represents a paradigm shift in quality for cool-climate Chilean wines. Situated within the Aconcagua Costa D.O., these limited-production wines, akin to Grand Cru, epitomize a distinctive character shaped by metamorphic rock and slate. Benefitting from the nearby Pacific Ocean's cool influence and well-drained soils rich in laminar rock, Las Pizarras vineyards yield Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah of unparalleled complexity, depth, minerality, and natural acidity.
Las Pizarras Pinot Noir originates from three distinct plots, measuring 0,8ha, 0,7ha and 3,1ha, each possessing unique characteristics. The soil of these three plots is highly influenced by metamorphic rocks. The weathering of this substratum occurs and increases along vertical fissures (joints), producing loamy residual materials. This important weathering allows a good development of the root system in the deeper layer, giving our wines their characteristic minerality, complexity and freshness.
The 2022 vintage:
Climatic Conditions:
The unique conditions of the 2022 vintage were marked by a low crop and dry conditions. In all it is considered an excellent year, where we were blessed with a warmer than average January that enhanced an even veraison and healthy crop, followed by cooler conditions in February and March allowing a slow and steady maturation that resulted in grapes with perfect ripeness and wines full of concentration, complexity and tension.
Tasting notes:
"Las Pizarras Pinot Noir 2022 displays a cherry red color with ruby highlights. It has a complex nose with floral notes reminiscent of rosehip, and a soft touch of violet, accompanied by black cherries and truffles. All framed by elegant notes of dried fruits, sweet spices and cedar. On the palate it has notes of fresh cherries, raspberries, plus some marzipan and truffles. It is a pure, deep and balanced wine on the palate, with fine-grained chalky tannins and long persistence.”
