Héritage de Chasse Spleen - Haut-Médoc 2022

Chasse Spleen has been managed by women for the past thrity years: Jacques Merlaut's daughter, Bernadette Villars, starting in 1976, followed by her daughter Claire, beginning in 1992, and now her sister, Céline.

The vineyard is located in Moulis, the smallest appellation in the Médoc, just off the Route des Châteaux, halfway between Margaux and Saint-Julien. Its extraordinary varies terroir consists of complementary soil types going from pure Garonne and Pyrenean gravel to a mixture of clay and limestone.

Since the 2001 vintage, the second wine l'Ermitage de Chasse-Spleen has become l'Héritage de Chasse-Spleen.

Climatic conditions: 

The 2022 Vintage had a relatively wet winter, with some very cold sessions. The rain finally arrives in January and February. Worries about the frost at the end of March and the beginning of April. Beautiful bloom. Four heat waves strike from June. Concerned, however, we note a certain stoicity of the vineyard that seems to suffer less than us. The harvest in good conditions is early, the light rains were well come. In the cellar, no aroma of overripeness, fruit already.

Tasting notes: 

Vintage 2022 has a brilliant, intense burgundy-red color. On the nose, it is balanced with aromas of redcurrant and black cherry, accompanied by a slightly spicy note. The attack is clean, with fine tannins and supple volume. The finish is persistent, marked by attractive red fruit.
