The 2019 Grand Mayne has a beautifully defined, pure bouquet of black cherry, blueberry, crushed violet and mineral aromas. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, crisp acidity and touches of dark chocolate toward the finish, which displays both power and elegance. Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 Grand Mayne comes galloping out of the glass with powerful notes of crushed blackberries, warm black plums and baked black cherries plus suggestions of spice box, smoked meats, licorice and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with spicy black fruit preserves, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with great persistence and an invigorating peppery kick.

The 2019 Grand Mayne takes its time to unfold in the glass, eventually delivering enticing and very pure red berry fruit, beautifully defined and less exuberant than some of the vintages I was tasting 15-20 years ago. There is a sense of terroir and mineralité in situ. The palate is saline on the entry, immediately grabbing your attention thanks to unbridled freshness and vivacity. Slightly grainy in texture, the umami sensation that glides towards a very precise and natural finish is wonderful here. Grand Mayne has been on an upward swing in recent vintages and this is another outstanding wine from Jean-Antoine Nony.

Rouge grenat aux reflets violets. Belle intensité florale en symbiose avec d’élégantes notes fruitées telles que myrtilles, mûres et une touche de cerises. Fines notes minérales avec des nuances de graphite. En bouche le vin est marqué par l’élégance, l’équilibre. Dès l’attaque le vin est friand et crémeux. Ses tannins sont bien enrobés et en phase avec la race de la structure. Il en résulte une bonne symbiose et une expression aromatique bien soutenue par l’acidité. Un Grand Mayne frais, élégant et prêt à aller dans le temps. 2024-2044.
