Goulée by Cos d'Estournel - Médoc 2017

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 72% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, coming from a 30-year-old vineyard located north of Cos. The wine opens with notes of baked plums, warm black cherries and black raspberries with suggestions of allspice, pencil shavings and black truffles plus a waft of roses. Medium-bodied, the palate features fantastic freshness and bags of bright, pure red and black fruits, framed by plush tannins and finishing on a spicy note. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2030

The 2017 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is silky, floral and gracious, not to mention incredibly appealing. Crushed flowers, spice, dried cherry, mint and licorice are very nicely lifted. I would prefer to drink the 2017 young, while it retains its sense of grace and harmony it shows today. What a lovely wine it is.

A rich, soft red with plums and chocolate, as well as spice and walnut undertones. Exotic. Full body, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows the depth and intensity of this chateau. Drink now or hold.

Nez sur des notes balsamiques, les épices douces. Bouche dotée d’une fine vivacité. Vin fin, équilibré, mais un peu linéaire à ce stade, avec des tanins bien extraits, savoureux.

The 2017 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is a gracious, mid-weight wine with lovely aromatic presence that gives lift and energy to the dark red plum fruit. This attractive Merlot-based red from Cos d'Estournel will drink well upon release. The 2017 is a touch compact, but it is nicely done. The blend is 72% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc.

Forward and round, the wine is all about the fruity entry and the sweetness harmonizing with a touch of olives and thyme on the back end. A blend of 72% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, this wine reached 12.8% alcohol.

The 2017 Goulée, which was picked at 53hl/ha and matured in 30% new oak, has a deep dark color, a little more opaque than previous vintages. The bouquet is classic in style with graphite-infused blackberry and bilberry fruit, a slight estuarine tang emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannin, masculine in style. It feels a little pinched at the moment, not quite attaining the same “flow” as I found on the previous vintage, an almost Pauillac-like graphite tincture lingering on the aftertaste. This is likely to be a Goulée for early drinking over the next four to five years. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Composed of 72% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, it has a medium garnet-purple color and opens with pretty red and black berries, raspberries, black cherries and red currants notes with hints of dried herbs, damp soil and pencil lead. The medium-bodied mouth is refreshing, elegant, very soft and lively with loads of juicy red and black fruits and an approachable finish.

Soft, perfumed and juicy, this is a ripe wine. Its generous texture and fine acidity are balanced by a smoky, chocolate and richly fruited finish.

This has clear depth and weight to the fruit, with enjoyable pepper notes. This is an extremely accomplished, refined and elegant Goulée, with a gourmet damson and almond crunch to the fruit. Michel Reybier is now both the owner and director across the Cos d'Estournel properties following the departure of Aymeric de Gironde.
