Dark ruby-red.  Bright aromas of strawberry, blackberry and licorice.  Enters the mouth fresh and juicy, then turns firm in the middle, showing a restrained sweetness to the vibrant dark berry, cocoa and spice flavors.  Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a light touch.

The 2011 La Fleur de Bouard is a rich, full-bodied, ripe, heady, satisfying effort. Big, chewy and delicious, it showcases super-ripe Merlot picked late from small yields.

In a relatively short period of time, Hubert de Bouard has created a reference point for how great Lalande de Pomerol can be. When tasted 10-15 years after the vintage, de Bouards wines consistently prove his conviction that he is sitting on a special terroir, even though this appellation is a humble one compared to his nearby neighbors, Pomerol and St.-Emilion.

Lighter-bodied, with slightly loose plum and blackberry fruit and a hint of scorched wood on the finish. Knits together with some time in the glass.

(85% merlot, 12% cabernet franc and 3% cabernet sauvignon): Inky purple. Deep aromas of cassis, cocoa, violet and vanilla. Smooth, rich and dense; with lovely precision to the floral and cocoa flavors. Finishes smooth, with a persistent blackberry note and captivating juiciness. Finishes with copious, mounting tannins but remains smooth and balanced on the long, creamy finish. Excellent.

House-style deep, saturated colour. Dark fruit with violet notes. Very fine texture and silky tannins. Modern but restrained. Impressive for the vintage. Drink 2016-2023.

The 2011 La Fleur de Bouard, a blend of 85% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and a tiny bit of Cabernet Sauvignon, averaged 13.7% natural alcohol. A powerful, rich, dense ruby/purple-colored effort, it offers blueberry, chocolate and espresso notes, full body, good acidity, and excellent purity and length. This cuvee should drink well for a decade or more. A brilliant reference point wine for Lalande de Pomerol, owner Hubert de Bouard consistently over-achieves in most vintages.

Drink 2017-2025
Deep black cherry colour. Lots of oak char on the nose, a touch smoky, though the cassis peeks through. Charred oak is all I can taste at the moment though there is clearly some decent fruit weight in the middle. There's fresh acidity but the oak is overpowering the fruit. Bitter finish. (JH)

A wine that has the richenss of a Pomerol, it’s very ripe and concentrated, with the addition of chocolaty and smoky flavors. The fruit is ripe, edging towards extracted. —R.V
