Feytit Clinet - Pomerol 2024

Feytit-Clinet, a great value in Pomerol

This vineyard, covering less than 6 hectares, has been managed by Jérémy Chasseuil since the early 2000s. For two decades, he has been dedicated to producing high-quality wines, vintage after vintage. Here, the terroir reigns supreme, and the modest and traditional winemaking tools must serve it. The winery was renovated in 2016 and allows for finer parcel selection and more precise extractions."

Deep garnet-purple colored. Black raspberries, plums, and tar notes jump from the glass, leading to an earthy undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate is pleasantly plush with just enough fruit and freshness, finishing soft-spoken and savory.

Lots of cassis, ripe cherries, smoky oak, espresso, and loamy earth emerge from the 2024 Château Feytit-Clinet, a plush, medium to full-bodied, pleasure-bent beauty with velvety tannins, integrated background oak, solid mid-palate depth, and a great finish. This continues to be one of the standout values in Pomerol, and it's a wine I consistently add to my personal cellar.

The 2024 Feytit-Clinet has quite an expressive bouquet with lifted blackberry, black olive and light smoky scents that unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins. Strangely, the oak feels a bit too present. Perhaps this is a stage it is going through on the barrel that it was taken from? I will have to revisit this because it is one of my favorite Pomerols.

The 2024 Feytit-Clinet is a very good wine in a challenging harvest marked by hail, mildew, coulure and millerandage. Dark and layered, with very good textural presence, the 2024 possesses notable depth. Black-toned fruit, leather, spice, gravel, incense and licorice convey an impression of somber gravitas. Some saignée in vinification as well as bâtonnage helped build attractive texture. As has been the case for some years now, the tannins are quite a bit less imposing here than they were in the past. Élevage, 65% new oak and 35% once-used barrels, will play a critical in determining the final result. Harvest started on September 18 for the Merlots and wrapped up on the 28th.

Flowers, chocolate, and fruit combine in the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is soft, supple, and packed with sweet, ripe, juicy, chocolatey black plums, and dark cherries. The lushly textured finish continues with notes of ripe berries and touches of cocoa in the endnote. The wine blends 90% Merlot, with 10% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2045.

Château Feytit-Clinet 2024 falls short of its usual ripeness and depth. To offset the lack of fruit generosity, the wine leans into toasted oak to enhance aromatic complexity. While this choice broadens the aromatic spectrum to a degree, it also further restrains the already reserved fruit notes. However, credit must be given to the winemaker for the exceptionally fine, almost dust-like tannins that gently wrap around every detail. It’s as if the winemaker, with a quiet touch, repainted the composition, bringing balance where fullness was lacking.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Delicately smoky herbal savouriness, black berry fruit, a hint of liquorice. Powerful, ripe plum, subtle sweetness, vivid tannins, somewhat over-extracted, delicately leafy finish.
