Feytit Clinet - Pomerol 2021

The 2021 Feytit-Clinet is a pretty understated release for this property, where the wines are often larger in scale. Soft contours wrap around a core of plum, red cherry, spice, new leather and white pepper. As it was en primeur, the 2021 is a relatively open-knit, accessible Feytit-Clinet that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Sweet floral and spice notes grace the silky finish.

Smoky and meaty nose with bacon, lard and lots of grilled herbs to the dark cherries. A hint of espresso and white pepper, too. Juicy, medium-bodied on the palate with crunchy fruit nicely woven into the creamy, fine-grained tannins. Fluid and succulent in the lengthy but elegant finish. Better from 2024.

Cloves, pencil lead, black chocolate, dark cassis fruits, this veers towards aniseed and fennel bitterness on the finish, but there is concentration here, and plenty of appellation character. A good choice for an impactful Pomerol, no need to wait too long but ensure a good few hours in a carafe.

This is a rather simple wine with a good heart, and yet it lacks complexity and length. It offers decent, immediate pleasure and some lushness of Merlot fruit without too much oak, but that is all. 16

A medium-bodied red that starts off beautifully, with attractive currant and berry character, as well as black olive and violet. Fresh and vivid.

The 2021 Château Feytit-Clinet comes from a 6.68-hectare vineyard located between Trotanoy and Latour a Pomerol, not far from Clinet. Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that will spend 16 months in 70% new barrels, it offers a round, fleshy, medium to full-bodied style that brings plenty of mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and ample darker, blue fruits as well as some classic Pomerol earthy and floral nuances. It's beautifully done and certainly offers more pleasure and opulence than most out there. Tasted twice.

This wine is like a piece of flowing custard, soft, mushy, and springy. Although the oaky note is relatively pronounced at this stage, the aromas of soft berries and intricate spices are all clearly detectable. The mellow tannins on the palate are very rich, so much so that a round mouthfeel is maintained with relatively high acidity. Here goes its secret in standing out in 2021. ????????????,??????????????????????????,???????????????????????????????,????????????????????,??????2021????????????

Dark chocolate-covered plums and black cherries with roasted espresso bean overtones are all over here on the nose and on the palate. The wine finishes plummy with earthy nuances in the endnote. This is still the best deal in Pomerol. Drink from 2023-2035. 91-93

Beautiful richness through the palate, good quality, precision and depth, and plenty of Pomerol punch, although with more of a bite than usual. This delivers a ton of graphite and pencil lead, but also cassis, blackberry, earthy tannins, good stuff.

The 2021 Feytit-Clinet has a very perfumed bouquet of ripe red cherries, cassis and orange zest, well defined and yet understated. The palate is smooth and poised on the entry and a little powdery in texture, with a hint of dark chocolate toward the finish. Certainly a lighter style of Feytit-Clinet and, though well-balanced, it just misses the élan that has distinguished recent vintages. Drink over the next 15 years.

The 2021 Feytit-Clinet is a relatively soft, easygoing wine for a Pomerol that tends to be both brooding and explosive. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, spice and lavender are nicely pushed forward. Today, my impression is that the 2021 will be a wine to drink on the younger side, while some of the more important vintages mature in the cellar. Incidentally, a recent bottle of the 2009 was both fabulous and very young.

Gutes, aromatisches Potential. Kann reifen. 2026-2040 (Verkostet im April 2022. Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux)

Rich and muscular, the 2021 Feytit Clinet offers up aromas of cassis, blackberries, violets and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it's a generous, structured Pomerol built around powdery tannins and lively acids. (90 - 92)+

So much aromatic complexity on the nose here, full of dried flowers, herbs and exotic spices as well as fruit. Very floral and absolutely beguiling. Quite a dark profile on the palate, with sweet black liquorice and soft clove to the fore giving a savoury tone rather than overt fruitiness at this point, but excellent texture and overall weight. You get the Pomerol power but also seductive qualities. I really like this. Michel Rolland consultancy.
