Favia, Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon - Napa Valley 2019
Favia Winery was founded in 2001 as a collaboration between Viticulturist Annie Favia and Winemaker Andy Erickson. Based in Coombsville, Napa Valley, California, their philosophy is simple: create soulful wines that express the true nature of the vineyards from which they come. The wines focus on two cultivars that thrive in the Napa Valley: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
These chosen vineyard sites represent the most compelling soils and aspects of Coombsville and have a rich story to tell. The team uses keen eyes, sharp ears, organic and mindful farming practices, where the smallest details make the difference. In the winery, gentle handling, minimal intervention, and strict monitoring of the wine make it possible for the beauty of the Napa Valley terroir to show in the wines.
Their pure Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville represents their best expression of the historic, however newly ascendant, appellation in the southeast corner of the Napa Valley.
Favia's team has been working with vineyards in this area for more than fifteen years. Its gravelly, volcanic soils and proximity to San Pablo Bay combine to lend the wines an old-world quality, delivered at an impressive level of concentration and depth.
2019 vintage
The 2019 offering of this noble variety is deeply colored, with a black-purple hue and remarkable opacity. The aromas are highly perfumed, with an intense, dark profile. The typical black fruits are there but layered under a blanket of umami notes—morels, roasted meat, exotic wood and dark chocolate. The weight is massive, but with amazing balance and grace. The wine has a velvety texture, with cocoa powder tannins and an expansive, lengthy finish. The wine is well structured and dense, and will certainly age for many years to come.
