The 2020 Clos des Jacobins is very nicely done. Soft and open-knit, Clos des Jacobins offers quite a bit of both immediacy and appeal. Sweet red berry fruit, mocha, licorice, spice, menthol and espresso build in a creamy, inviting Saint-Émilion that will drink well with minimal cellaring. A second bottle showed quite a bit more tannic bite. Tasted two times.

Ripe blackcurrants, cherries, graphite, and subtle oak notes emerge from the 2020 Clos Des Jacobins, which emerges from the upper plateau of Saint-Emilion. Deep purple-hued, medium to full-bodied, and nicely concentrated, it has impressive tannins as well as the purity of fruit that’s the hallmark of this great vintage.

The 2020 Clos des Jacobins has an attractive, well-defined bouquet of perfumed blackberry, wild strawberry and iris petal aromas, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with a fulsome entry, a slightly grainy texture and traces of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit; there’s well-judged acidity here. This is a nicely proportioned Saint-Émilion that should age with style.

Black pepper spice on the nose, this has slightly austere blue and blackberry fruits and clear limestone influence in the juice. Will take a few years to come around, but the coffee grounds and grilled oak that sit underneath the fruit right now play nicely into the whole, giving a sleek, successful and confident feel. Magali and Thibault Decoster are the owners here, Hubert de Boüard the consultant. Harvest September 21 to 28, 75% new oak for ageing.

Showing a good depth of color, the fruit is ripe, dark, sweet and polished. Medium-bodied, with soft-textures and a cool touch of minerality in the licorice, spice and espresso toned finish, this is good now, and it is going to be even better with 3-5 years of bottle age. 90-92

Bouquet intense marqué par des notes de cassis et par son élevage. Nuances épicées avec de la cannelle suivies d'une touche de bois de réglisse. Caractère crémeux et friand en bouche. Clos des Jacobins a du corps, qu'il doit à la puissance de ses tannins. Ces derniers se révèlent lentement et démontrent leur force en fin de bouche. La rafraîchissante structure acide conrecarre bien les tannins et il en résulte une symbiose optimale. Un vin gourmand, racé et ample. 2025-2045

Intense Purple color with violet hue and black core. Expressive and concentrated nose with aroma reminiscent of dark stone fruit, blackberries and elderberries, subtle oak with elegant toasting aroma and a discreet hint of mocha. On the palate well structured and balanced with ripe tannins, juicy fruit, fine acidity and convincing length with fine toasting flavor in the aftertaste.

EXtremely deep purple. Smells a bit more like a liquer than a wine, it's so concentrated. Very sweet palate entry with more than hint of oak and some astringency on the finish. This is the first wine from this appellation that slightly recalls the style fashionable in the 1990s. I may be misjudging it but it seems rather disjointed and unappetizing at this point in its life. 14,5% Drink 2028-2040
