This is a strong effort from La Pointe, another estate that seems to be producing better and better wines. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2011 reveals a dense ruby/plum/purple color, a sweet perfume of black raspberries, black currants, licorice and subtle high quality oak, medium to full body, and an expansive, broad, pure texture. Drink this sleeper of the vintage over the next decade.

A Pomerol with outstanding depth of fruit and structure for the vintage, featuring chocolate, berry and spice character. Full, velvety tannins. Very polished, too. Need another three or four years to come together.

Very solid, with a ganache spine supporting the enticing dark plum and fig fruit flavors, while bramble and singed wood spice notes fill in on the finish. Approachable now, this should mellow in the short-term. Drink now through 2021.

(85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc): Full ruby-red. Blackcurrant, smoke and pepper on the fruity nose. Then surprisingly supple and broad in the mouth, with a delicacy to the dark fruit and mineral flavors. Turns a bit youthfully clenched toward the back, owing to a peppery quality that carries through to the reasonably persistent finish.

Grand charme au nez avec une profondeur de fruits noirs et une délicatesse florale, les tanins sont séducteurs avec un bel enrobage et une fraîcheur savoureuse, belle réussite.

The La Pointe 2011 has a focused bouquet with fresh dark berry fruit that is totally in tune with the new oak. There is a nice touch of oyster shell developing with time. The palate is succulent and supple on the entry with lifted dark berries, fine minerality and quite a dense finish that does not exhibit any of the greenness that an old La Pointe would have in such a vintage. Very fine from Eric Monnoret and his team. Tasted April 2012

Drink 2016-2026
Sweet, perfumed dark and ripe and chocolatey. Deep dark fruit, not overly ripe with a more savoury freshness on the palate. Big but showing more restraint in the structure than many. (JH)

Has focus and consistent flesh from start to finish, with plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit supported by dusty tannins and backed by well-integrated spice on the finish.—J.M.

Lots of mineral, flower and blueberry character in this. Full body, with silky tannins and a juicy, lemon rind finish. Stylish for the vintage.
