The qualitative equivalent of the 1993, although more backward, tannic, and weighty, this dark ruby/purple-colored, medium-bodied, spicy, rich wine is well-made. It is soft for a 1994, yet capable of lasting 15-18 years. Some tannin in the finish suggests that purchasers should give it 2-3 years of cellaring.

Complex aromas of spices, berries and plums, with fine, silky tannins and a caressing finish. Medium body. Hard not to drink it now, but better in 1999.

The 1994 exhibits sweet black-cherry and cassis fruit lavishly wrapped in flamboyant toasty new oak. Medium-bodied, ripe, smooth, and silky with firm tannin in the finish, this wine should be drinkable when it is released and will last for a decade or more. This property has been producing opulent, fleshy, up-front wines that offer delicious drinking in spite of what appears to be a blatantly commercial style.

Is Clerc-Milon the Pomerol of Pauillac? Recent vintages have been silky smooth, with abundant ripeness and round, opulent textures. Made from a blend of 40% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 1994 exhibits a fine dark ruby/purple color, and a forthright, intense nose of smoked nuts, jammy blackcurrants, and lavish wood. Sweet and succulent, with excellent concentration, this medium-bodied wine offers fat and fleshiness, as well as elegance and complexity. It should drink well when released and last for 12-15+ years.
