Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Citran sashays out of the glass with gorgeous notions of chocolate-covered cherries, blackcurrant pastilles and black raspberries plus suggestions of cinnamon stick, red roses and pencil shavings with a waft of wild thyme. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-filling, ripe black berry flavors with amazing tension and nice, ripe, grainy tannins, finishing with a peppery kick.

The 2019 Citran is a powerful, pleasantly rustic Haut-Médoc. Dried red cherry, leather, smoke, tobacco and licorice, along with burly tannins, add to the wine's decidedly hearty feel. Even so, there is good depth and a good bit of potential here as well.

The 2019 Citran is conspicuously deep in colour. It has an intense bouquet with blackberry, cranberry and light iodine aromas. It is higher toned than I expected. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, nicely balanced with a smooth texture and a little pepperiness towards the finish. I would have liked it to fan out a bit more, show more flourish given the vintage. Tasted twice.
