Good dark red.  Expressive, complex aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, iron and flowers; showing its cabernet franc side today.  Then juicy, minerally and tightly wound, displaying lovely delicacy and grip to its red fruit and floral flavors.  Finishes gripping and taut, with talc-like chalky tannins and a light touch.  Very gracefully made wine--and hardly a blockbuster.  I may be underrating this. 92(+?) points

Ripe and silky, with a flamboyant edge to the plum sauce, anise-soaked currant fruit and dark blackberry paste flavors. The tannins are dense but velvety, and the finish cascades nicely. A bit of panache here, but this pulls it off. Best from 2015 through 2027. –JM

An elegant, attractive blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare, this wine tips the scales at 15% natural alcohol which, given the more elegant style sought at Canon, tells readers a lot about how powerful the 2010 vintage was across all the appellations of Bordeaux. Exhibiting plenty of raspberry, blueberry and black cherry fruit as well as some crushed rock/chalky minerality and a floral note, this very impressive Canon is backward, structured and precise. Give it 7-8 years of bottle age and drink it over the following three decades.

Canon’s vineyard measures 50+ acres, and the wine is looked after by well-known consultant Gilles Pauquet.

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Canon 2010 has a reticent nose despite rigorous coaxing. Yet there is certainly good definition and plenty of sharp red brambly fruits within. The palate is much more expressive. It is supremely well balanced with lovely ripe espresso-tinged black fruit and a compelling sense of harmony and focus. The finish is crisp, beautifully defined with a spicy note lingering on the aftertaste. This has great potential – but it will need time. Tasted November 2012.

Wonderful nose with strawberries, cherry blossom, and vanilla. The red opens up with blueberries, milk chocolate and sweet licorice. Full and juicy on palate with pure dark fruit and velvety tannins. So nicely layered texture and long in the finish with red fruit and crushed chalk. The texture is superb. Drink from 2018

2010: Along with the brilliant 2009, the 2010 Canon appears to be the finest wine made at this estate since the 1982. Aficionados of this 50-acre vineyard situated on the top of the St.-Emilion plateau will have fun comparing the 2009 and 2010 over the next 30 years. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that hit 15% natural alcohol (a record here), the 2010 offers up perfumed notes of spring flowers, crushed chalk, black currants, black cherries, earth, forest floor and oak. Full-bodied as well as elegant and precise, this brilliant effort needs 5-8 years of cellaring and should drink well for three decades or more. Drink 2016-2046(92-94+ points)

Sattes Purpur-Violett. 14,8% Vol.-%. 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. 2018-2040

This is a thick wine that lacks definition of fruit on the palate. The extraction on this wine was too excessive resulting in a wine that is finishes bitter and dry.

O=2018 G=20 ans

Blackberries and hints of spices and fresh herbs. This is so tasty. It has wonderful round and juicy tannins, with lots of fruit yet subtle and spicy, with chocolate and light coffee. So yummy. Hard not to drink it. This is a classic style of Canon, such as 1955 or 1959. Better than 2009

I loved the '09 and this is as good if not better. Poised and elegant with great purity of fruit. Dense but long and linear. Beautiful texture and tannins. Drink 2018-2040. (18.5 points)

Ripe, with dark blackberry and linzer torte fruit laced nicely with the racy, mouthwatering acidity and strong graphite spine of the vintage. Long, driven and very solid, with serious, charcoal-tinged grip. —J.M.

Canon - From 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, (which is the same mix as found in the vineyards,) the wine is deep ruby in color and reached 14.8% alcohol. Yet, there is no sensation of heat. People who prefer tasting by the numbers could have problems with this wine, but I loved it! An intoxicating perfume filled with minerality, licorice, black raspberry jam, hints of oak and chocolate, this is the richest, most concentrated wine produced by the Kolasa team yet. Thick, intense and filled with fresh, perfectly ripe plums, blackberries and licorice, the wine feels great as it falls over your palate and coats your mouth. 94-96 Pts.

Slightly smudgy on the nose. Thick and sweet and angular on the palate. Job done, but without enormous grace, and surely with quite a bit of oak? Drink 2018-2028

A firm, but richly juicy wine, laced with polished new wood flavors to go with the ripe black currant fruits. There is a smoky, meaty character as well, with the final reminder of delicious acidity.-R.V.
