Wine Advocate 93 / 100 byNeal Martinthe5/31/2016 The 2006 Château Canon has a vivid, kirsch and wild strawberry bouquet with touches of orange zest and marmalade, a touch of mushroom in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, sage and melted tar. There is wonderful structure here, superb salinity, completely fulfilling the promise it demonstrated out of bottle. Perhaps yes, I was a little over-enthusiastic at that time, but after ten years it has foraged wonderful focus and vivacity. Seek this out. Tasted January 2016.
Jancis Robinson 15.50 / 20 byJancis Robinsonthe1/27/2010 Very dark with scents of Earl Grey tea. Thick and dense and deep. Aromatic and not too forced but not that much fun. Drying finish. Drink 2014-2022
Decanter Magazine 17 / 20 the4/1/2009 Restrained concentration. Finely tuned berry and cherry notes, with complex spice notes in support. Has a firm, smoky ripeness and a sweet core of fruit intensity. Modernist, but with sleek style. From 2012.
Wine Spectator 90 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe3/31/2009 Subtle aromas of chocolate, orange peel and flowers. Full- to medium-bodied, with balanced, silky tannins and a pretty finish. Not a big wine, but pleasing and friendly. Subtle and beautiful. Best after 2012.
Wine Enthusiast 93 / 100 byRoger Vossthe3/1/2009 A big, dark, rich wine with an impressively opulent structure allied to fresh, bright Merlot character. The flavors of black berry juice are followed by chocolate, bitter coffee and vibrant acidity, which gives freshness to the finish.
Wine Advocate 90 / 100 byRobert Parkerthe2/1/2009 This elegant, deep ruby/purple-tinged 2006 offers copious quantities of sweet mocha, black cherry, and black currant fruit as well as a hint of powdered rock. A nicely concentrated, medium-bodied, finesse-styled St.-Emilion, it exhibits sweet tannin as well as the potential to evolve for 12-15 years.
Decanter Magazine 16 / 20 the6/30/2007 Gentle, elegant weight and style. Fruit pure and fresh. Stylistically affirmed but a little fluid on the finish. 2014-20
Wine Advocate 89-92 / 100 byRobert Parkerthe5/3/2007 A sweet, ripe, fleshy effort with soft tannins, impressive concentration, and sexy, up-front aromas of black cherries, herbs, crushed rocks, and spring flowers, this medium-bodied St.-Emilion will undoubtedly put on more weight will additional cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024.
Wine Advocate 94-96 / 100 byNeal Martinthe5/1/2007 Tasted privately with a negotiant. A beautiful sweet, slightly gamey nose with bright red berried fruits and hint of Medjool dates. Good definition. Very well balanced with superbly integrated new oak, good acidity and focus. Cassis, crushed violets and blueberry, with an almost Margaux-like finish. Very pretty and beautifully poised. One of the top Saint Emilions.
Jancis Robinson 16.50 / 20 byJancis Robinsonthe4/18/2007 Paler than most. Mild, ripe toasty nose – well balanced though not intense. Lightly tarry – not that much fruit on the mid palate and pretty drying tannins on the finish. A little bit hollow?
Wine Enthusiast 93-95 / 100 the4/15/2007 A hugely rich wine, full of sweet chocolate and immensely ripe blackberry flavors. Sweet fruits, balanced by sweet and sour acidity, a gorgeous, ripe wine. —R.V.
Wine Spectator 89-91 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe4/4/2007 Balanced and fruity, with a lovely silky texture and sweet, ripe fruit. Long and caressing. Refined and harmonious.
