Château Chasse-Spleen 2022 displays a deep structure, intense tannins, and a pervasive graphite scent as if a Moulis blend has donned the cloak of Pauillac. Rich flavors of licorice and star anise abound, and after swirling the glass, I can also detect the intense aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and black olive. Compared to the smoother 2019 vintage, the 2022 vintage has a stronger sense of power, with a more solid tannic structure that requires a longer aging period to gradually unfold.

The 2022 Chasse-Spleen offers up aromas of sweet plums, berries and licorice, framed by a deft touch of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, with lively acids and powdery tannins, it's taut and youthfully structured, exhibiting a touch less immediate charm than I anticipated en primeur.

Medium intensity, well balanced, with attractive dark brambled fruits, with crayon, sweet baking spices and supple tannins, reflects the heat of the vintage but stays within the lines. 40% new oak barrels, and this vintage contains part of the vines from newly-purchased Château Brillette, with good quality Cabernet Sauvignon from gravel terroir.

Ripe currants, spicy oak, graphite, and leather notes all define the 2022 Château Chasse-Spleen, another Moulis that has beautiful richness and depth. It's medium-bodied, nicely balanced, has fine tannins, and outstanding length. This outstanding Moulis is based on 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, aged 18 months in 40% new barrels. It should have 20 years of overall longevity.

The 2022 Chasse-Spleen presents a promising, quite burly bouquet with blackberry, bilberry and hints of marmalade unfolding in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry with grippy tannins. It feels a little stricter than it did in barrel, showing more austerity on the finish, but I appreciate the tension and ample length. Give this time to prove itself.

An excellent Chasse-Spleen that shows fine sweet spices and creamy yet vibrant plums and cassis. Lovely precision, with minerals and berries on the palate. Bright and refined, with dense, chalky tannins and a lengthy finish. Drink from 2027.

The 2022 Chasse-Spleen is a powerful, deep Moulis. Scorched earth, tobacco, incense and dried flowers complement a core of dark fruit. Brooding and quite closed today, the 2022 needs a few years in bottle to be at its best.

Cool and crisp, a little sombre at first, the dense tannins and liquorice, blue fruit and soft herbal aspects at the fore but there is juiciness here, good depth and lovely precision where you feel the edges to the frame and the quality of the tannins, even though they're full and mouthcoting. Nice potential with cool freshness. Calm and confident, still with enough acidity to keep the life and energy, but a touch more serious than some others. Lots to like here and will age well. Yield of 34hl/ha. Harvest 17 September - 6 October. 2% Cabernet Franc completes the blend.

Deep crimson. Wax varnish, marzipan, dark chocolate, blackcurrant graphite aromas. Inky graphite blackcurrant flavours, fine chalky dry tannins, very good volume and well balanced savoury oak notes. Finishes peppery and long with a fine grippy tannin plume. (Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Blend with small parcels of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc 40% new oak)

La fraîcheur du Cabernet Sauvignon est bien relatée par le bouquet de Chasse-Spleen au travers de nuances de cassis et d'eucalyptus. Le vin dispose de tannins juteux qui créent le lien entre puissance et finesse et qui assurent bien les arrières. Un vin harmonieux, authentique qui dispose des ressources nécessaires pour passer du temps en cave. Quelle belle réussite !

Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with levels of texture and mid-palate amplitude unusual at this address in recent years, this supple, charming Moulis should offer a broad drinking window. 90-92+
