Carmes Haut Brion, Hommage Au Siecle - Pessac-Léognan 2017
A UNIQUE WINE IN TRIBUTE TO A CENTURY OF HISTORY
From 1917 to 2017, a century of history has left its indelible mark on Carmes Haut-Brion. 1917 saw the birth of Marie-Jeanne Chantecaille who later became as an iconic figure at the Estate, affectionately known as ‘Bijou.’ This century witnessed an unwavering passion for vinegrowing, where the Cabernet Franc grape, deeply rooted in this singular vineyard, has been passed down through generations of vintners.
The memories of this past century at Carmes have inspired the creation of an exceptional case that combines the crafts of wine and perfume.
Firstly, it is composed of a unique wine: A single-blend of Cabernet Franc grapes that were harvested in 2017. It was vinified in a ‘parfum’ - a 6hL concrete vat - and then aged for two years in barrels and an additional two years in sandstone amphorae. Since 2021, it has been resting in the iconic “Marie-Jeanne”, the signature vessel of Carmes, with a capacity of 2.25L.
Secondly, we can find the ‘Eau des Carmes,’ the result of a collaboration with Barnabé Fillion, a perfumer. Iris, peony, violet... This skin fragrance transports its owner, encapsulating the olfactory narrative of this century and the old Cabernet Francs.
This case is an homage to a century lived on these hallowed grounds, to a grape variety passed down as a cherished legacy, to a woman who has indelibly shaped history, and to the water that makes Les Carmes. It is as rare as it is exceptional, as quantities are extremely limited. Unduplicated in other vintages, it will, in its own right, become part of the estate’s legacy.
This case includes:
- 1 Marie-Jeanne (2.25L) of an exclusive wine, crafted entirely from 100% Cabernet Franc harvested in 2017.
- 1 bottle of ‘Eau des Carmes,’ a unisex skin fragrance, representing the olfactory signature of Carmes Haut Brion, co-created in collaboration with Barnabé Fillion, a renowned nose and perfumer.
