This elegant St.-Emilion has filled out nicely over the last decade. From barrel and post-bottling, I thought it might turn out austere, but that does not appear to be the case. It offers a deep ruby/purple color as well as copious aromas of black cherries, crushed rocks, and earthy undertones. While not a blockbuster, it is beautifully balanced and pure, revealing slightly more depth and richness than I expected. Drink it now and over the next 10-15 years.... Drink 2010-2025.

This wine is superb. With its power and structure it will age for 20 years or more. Backed by black currant and jelly flavors, it shows a great fruity attractiveness even at ths early stage in its development. It will develop slowly and evenly to become a reference point for the vintage. -R.V.

80% Merlot - 17% Cabernet Franc - 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Robe rouge sombre, assez intense. Le nez est sur des nuances minérales, fruits noirs, note de thé fumé. Réservé et quelque peu austère dans sa texture, il ne démontre pas à ce stade la suavité de texture et le côté satiné des tanins qu'arborent les meilleurs de ses pairs. Mais la matière est là et il va très certainement ganger en précision à l'élevage.

Very attractive nose of summer pudding and cream. The essence of Saint-Emilion. This is already a gorgeous drink with a wonderful creamy texture, soft and smooth. 2-15 years.

(80% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon): Tiefes, dunkles Purpur, erster Hauch von Reife. Leicht trockenes Bouquet, dörrfrüchte, Heunoten, schwarze Pfefferkörner. Im Gaumen fleischig, leicht kernig, für einen Grand Cru etwas bourgeoise, wilder Rosmarin im Abagang. Weshalg nur hat der 2000er bereits die Frucht verloren? 2008-2017

A stylish, elegant and restrained 2000, this medium-bodied wine reveals notes of strawberry jam intermixed with black cherries, minerals, oak, and herbs. The tannin is sweet and the mid-palate firm, even beefy. This is an attractive, medium-bodied effort with impressive ripeness, length, and balance, yet it is not a blockbuster. Loads of toasted oak on this one, with very ripe fruit character. Full-bodied, and very concentrated, yet the tannins are round and creamy. Smoky finish. Exciting stuff here. Best Canon in a long, long time. Best after 2010.

A big improvement over recent efforts from this famous cru on the hillsides outside medieval St.-Emilion, Canon's 2000 is a dark ruby-colored, elegant, medium-bodied effort displaying notions of flowers, minerals, earth, black cherries, and currants. It possesses excellent concentration, purity, and balance. Moderate tannin in the finish suggests some cellaring is required. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.
