The World of Fine Wines

Great density of ripe black fruit on the nose, but no sense of overripeness; full, generous, powerful, but freshly defined by its acidity, and with a fine-textured firm tannin; dense (you sense the clay?), rich and vital, with an abundance of sweetly ripe fruit, long and complex to taste, a mouthfilling, slightly alcoholresonant (not hot!) presence, and with fine, warm, sweetly fragrant length. Power, yes, but a sort of gentle giant (again), because there is
nothing fierce or harsh here, and there is a purity and transparency of character that you also taste in the second wine, Mondot. A splendid Troplong Mondot, but which will need, and deserve, years of cellarage.
