Tour Saint-Christophe - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2021

World of Vignobles K

The Vignobles K Group, a family company, was created in 2014, regrouping 7 wine properties, situated on the best terroirs on 4 prestigious appellations of Bordeaux, included Château Bellefont-Belcier (Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé), Château Haut-Brisson (Saint Emilion Grand Cru), Château Tour Saint Christophe (Saint Emilion Grand Cru), Château La Patache (Pomerol), Enclos Tourmaline (Pomerol). Peter Kwok, the group's owner, is a Bordeaux wine lover and a French culture lover.

Château Tour Saint Christophe, vines on singular narrow terraces

Château Tour Saint Christophe is located in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes at the frontiers of Saint-Émilion. The vineyard is a unique feature in Saint-Emilion, as it is partly planted on narrow terraces where the vineyard is tended in tight rows. This cascading landscape unfolds on the hillside of Cassevert overlooking the Saint Laurent valley.

Château Tour Saint Christophe was acquired by Peter Kwok and his daughter Karen in 2012.

The World of 2021 Vintage

DEPTH - FRESHNESS - SILKINESS

The weather conditions

This vintage has a special resonance for Château Tour Saint Christophe which is now officially committed to organic farming.

The severe frosts of April spared the vineyard. From May onwards, the weather conditions complicated the work of the
vinegrowers, but the vigilance, rigour and unfailing investment of the teams enabled to curb the significant pressure of mildew and to provide the best care for the vines until the end of the summer.
From mid-September onwards, the weather conditions became ideal. Beautiful days with large temperature variations favoured phenolic ripening and preserved the aromas.

The winemaking process is little interventionist in order to preserve the subtlety of the aromas, the silkiness of the tannins, which are characteristic of this vintage, and the typicity of the terroirs. Fermentations are carried out without addition of
sulfur, only a minimum dose will be added at the end of ageing.

The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe turned out beautifully. Dark, supple and engaging, the 2021 offers up copious dark fruit, leather, licorice, chocolate, spice and tobacco. This ample, heady Saint-Émilion delivers the goods. In this vintage, Tour Saint Christophe is not quite as opulent as it can be, but that is not a bad thing at all. It was aged 20% in foudres Tasted two times.

Black cherries, mussels, mineral, chili chocolate and dark olives. Bright and racy on the palate with medium weight in the center palate. The fresh, fine-grained tannins add a sense of heft before a linear, lengthy finish. Drink or hold.

Rather firm and adroit on the palate and quite lean and hard on the finish, the fruit tone here is black cherries and cinnamon, and it is certainly upright and pure and demands time to settle and soften. Unlike so many of the forward wines in 2021, this one will repay patience, yet I expect the spice to remain, which provides a lovely point of difference for this wine. 17+

This is already nicely salty and chalky with crushed stones. Medium-to full-bodied with medium, firm tannins and a medium, juicy finish.

From an estate that seems to never put a foot wrong, the 2021 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another wine that's well worth your time and money. Coming from a mix of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc aging in 40% new barrels, its deep purple hue is followed by a beautiful, classic Saint-Emilion bouquet of cassis, ripe cherries, graphite, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, it has both richness and elegance, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's another gorgeous wine from the talented Jérôme Aguirre.

Tour Saint Christophe is the “rainbow” we can see after “going through storms” in 2021, definitely amazing. Its aromas are so arresting. The fragrances of dried plum and waxberry are surrounded by the fresh notes of sandalwood and tea. Such a clear expression is very rare for a Merlot blend in 2021. Tour Saint Christophe saves its trump cards for its later performance. It presents a juicy, soft, and delicate palate, and supports it with a grand structure and amazing minerality that comes from the limestone plateau. This ever-lasting and powerful depth brings us endless imagination. This is definitely a Saint-émilion top-quality wine in the 2021 vintage. Roses, lilacs, espresso, caramel, Indian spice, cherries and red plums create the complex nose. On the palate, the wine is bright, crisp, chewy and fresh, with a good sense of minerality, and purity in the fruits. The wine is made from blending 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, 13.6% ABV, pH 3.5. The harvest took place September 18, October 15. Because the tannins are so soft and polished, you can enjoy this young, but aging it a bit will add even more complexity. Drink from 2023-2039. 92-94

The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe is perfumed and high-toned on the nose, featuring blueberry and raspberry fruit mixed with violet and iris flower. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit, gentle grip, impressive balance and a correct, quite linear finish. Stylish and with good aging potential. It should end up at the top of my banded score.

The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe is terrific. Naturally, the 2021 doesn't have the breadth of previous vintages. Instead, there is a sense of energy running through the 2021 that is compelling. Dark fruit, leather, gravel, incense and mocha all meld together nicely. Once again, Tour Saint Christophe is a star in the appellation for its quality and value. Tasted two times.

(80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 13.6% Alkohol, pH 3.5) Dunkles Purpur.

The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe has turned out very well, delivering aromas of cherries and sweet berries mingled with hints of loamy soil and sweet new oak. Medium to full-bodied, pure and lively, it's elegantly muscular, with powdery tannins and a penetrating finish. (90 - 92)+
