Tour de Bessan - Margaux 2024

The estate

The origins of Château La Tour de Bessan date back to the 13th century. Several local families succeeded each other over the centuries, until Lucien Lurton bought the winery in 1972. In 1992, his daughter Marie-Laure took over the management. With a degree in oenology and 6 years of experience on her father's estate, she perfectly knows every plots of the vineyard.
Château La Tour de Bessan is located in three communes of the Margaux appellation. The soils are made of Pyrenean gravel with more or less clay depending on the area. In 2012, the introduction of Petit Verdot has increased the diversity of grape varieties in the vineyard.

A supple and fruity red with currants and warm herbs on the nose. It’s light- to medium-bodied with round tannins. Mellow and fruity finish.

The 2024 La Tour de Bessan has a sweet-'n-sour nose whereby the winery has tried to compensate for a shortfall in fruit concentration. The palate is medium-bodied and very simple with chewy tannins and a green, slightly metallic finish.

The 2024 vintage of Château La Tour de Bessan stands as a successful example. As mentioned several times in En Primeur Tasting Report, polyphenol ripeness was generally suboptimal this year. However, this wine effectively compensated for any potential gaps in the body by carefully refining the tannins. While the concentration is slightly lacking, it still shows a progression in complexity.

Dark ruby, deep core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Fresh plum, blueberry, floral nuances, a hint of raisin. Lean, delicately red berry, fresh structure, dried fruit touch on the finish.
