Terraces - Château Pesquié - Ventoux 2016
Coming from the Latin "Terras", "mound of earth", this word has taken the meaning of "lifting of earth" forming a platform maintained by a stone wall. The relief of the Ventoux is characterized by the alternation of hills and valleys. To highlight this exceptional terroir, the slopes of the hills have been converted into "terraces". Even today, we find them in the Provencal countryside also called "restanques" or "rebanques". With this name, the Chaudière family pays tribute to the Provencal landscape "sculpted" by their ancestors and the terraces of the garden of Château Pesquié. The vine cultivation must have existed for over two thousand years at Château Pesquié. The recent discovery in the heart of the Côtes du Ventoux appellation of a pottery and pottery workshop dating back to Roman times (- 30 BC) confirms that our region is one of the oldest wine growing areas in France . Long after the introduction by the Romans, the Church will play a fundamental role in the development of the vineyard especially during the presence of the popes in Avignon in the fourteenth century. From centuries to centuries, the estate has passed into the hands of many Lords, from the Counts of Mormoiron to the Marquis de Reilhanette and the Lords of Maubec. The Château took its present appearance around the year 1745, with the balanced style of a Provencal bastide. It was in 1970 that Odette and René Bastide bought the Château from a descendant of Alphonse Daudet, three years before the Ventoux name was recognized as an AOC. Then begins a story of love, sweat, choice and future with this terroir. A story that continues today with Alexandre and Fréderic Chaudière, the third generation. A history of wines!
