Günther Steinmetz: Passionate craftsmanship on the Moselle slopes
The Günther Steinmetz estate in Brauneberg, Moselle, has been run by Stefan Steinmetz since 1999. This 12-hectare family vineyard is planted exclusively with Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes, grown on the region's typical schist slopes. The estate's philosophy is based on sustainable viticulture and minimalist, additive-free winemaking to preserve the integrity of the terroir. The wines are distinguished by their minerality, liveliness and ageing capacity, faithfully reflecting the specific characteristics of the Moselle terroir.
Steinmetz - Piesporter Treppchen ''GG'' 2023
An exceptional Riesling, Piesporter Treppchen “GG” comes from old vines located on steep west-facing slopes, in the “am Fels” parcel of the Piesporter Treppchen vineyard, classified as a Große Lage, the equivalent of a Grand Cru in Germany. This wine bears the GG (Grosses Gewächs) label, designating dry wines from these classified terroirs. Fine and complex, Günther Steinmetz's Piesporter Treppchen GG embodies the excellence of the Moselle terroir, combining heritage and exceptional quality.
Vintage 2023
The 2023 vintage in Moselle was marked by contrasting climatic conditions, with dry July, rainy August and hot September. These variations produced well-balanced, complex wines offering a fine expression of terroir, such as this Riesling, which boasts fine aromatic concentration and balanced acidity.
Tasting notes
On the nose, aromas of ripe fruit, peach and apricot, with notes of white flowers, minerals and spices (white pepper or cloves). Rich concentration on the palate. Full-bodied spice aromas add structure and length.
