St Henri Shiraz - Penfolds - 2012
St Henry reflects a timeless style and a different expression of Syrah contrary to the style of Grange. It is a particular wine among Australian red wines of quality, as it does not age in new oak barrels. Created in 1950 by Penfolds (first vintage marketed in 1957), it was revived in the 1990s for its quality and its distinctive style was better appreciated by wine lovers. A style of wine that has not succumbed to the dictates of fashion or commerce. St Henry is rich and fluffy young, and gains a sweet, mocha character and unique flavors as it grows older. It is bred in the old 1460-liter tanks which allow the wine to develop (giving a minimum of oak character). Climate: Most areas of southern Australia have been affected by below-average precipitation during the winter period. This resulted in early bud burst in some areas and resulted in ideal stress throughout the spring bloom. The spring rains followed, merging with a mild summer and some short periods of warmth. Mild temperatures during the day and cool evenings were observed in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, allowing an impressive development of flavor. Generally, the coldest regions (eg Adelaide Hills and Maritime Dress) have developed fairly, with good concentration over a long season of maturation. Balanced viticulture and harvests have allowed uniform development throughout the ripening season in all regions of southern Australia. Periods of heat and dry conditions continued throughout the harvest, allowing fruits to be harvested under optimal conditions and the precipitation marked the end of the vintage. Small berries and grapes are harvested in most areas. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, excellent results have been achieved.
