Sénéjac - Haut-Médoc 2022

Nicolas de Bloys is the first known owner. In the 16th century, this spirited squire planted the first vines on the estate. Since 2011 Philippine, Marguerite and Gustave Cordier have taken over the family property, supported by their parents Nancy Bignon-Cordier and Jean-Paul Bignon. The family is also the owner of Château Talbot, 4th Classified Growth in Saint Julien.

Château Sénéjac extends over 150 hectares, within which 41 hectares of vines are exploited. Of the 150 hectares that make up the estate, about forty hectares of forest border the vineyard to the north and south of the property. There is a wide variety of species with hornbeams, oaks, acacias and maritime pines.

"The 2022 Sénéjac is one of the best wines that this northern Médoc cru Bourgeois has produced in the last decade or two" William Kelley, Wine Advocate.

Château Sénéjac 2022’s fruitiness may not be as effusively varied as I had anticipated, yet its acidity is indeed convincible. The entry is refreshing and invigorating, with freshness on the nose and softness on the aftertaste, yet any heaviness of hot vintages. Compared to the recent years, the 2022 vintage is unquestionably the most dazzling one.

The 2022 Sénéjac has turned out very well and looks to be the best wine this estate has produced since 2009. Offering up aromas of sweet minty cassis, petals and pencil shavings, it's medium-bodied, velvety and seamless, with a fresh core of fruit and a flavorful finish.

A lovely vintage of Senejac, plummy dark fruits, luscious cocoa bean and espresso, edges of rosemary and sage, good stuff. Eric Boissenot consultant, Bignon-Cordier family owners.

2028-2040 92/100

The 2022 Sénéjac has a bold, ripe bouquet, quite modern in style as a veneer of new oak complements blackberry, blueberry and violet scents. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannins, powerful black fruit and a seam of dark chocolate towards the finish. Maybe this was pushed just a little during élevage? A second bottle did not show as well as the first and was deemed unrepresentative.

Vibrant, scented and delineated, showing expressive blue fruit, hibiscus, cassis, minerals and spices. The medium- to full-bodied palate is evenly packed with fresh and fine tannins. Graceful, velvety yet al dente. Spot-on balance with a lengthy but tightly wound finish. Already attractive, but wait three years if you want a more complete Bordeaux. This has the potential to develop for at least another eight to ten years.

The 2022 Senejac captures all the best the year had to offer. Ripe and fleshy yet also quite vibrant, the 2022 impresses with its balance. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, spice, menthol and mocha fill out the layers as the wine builds into a long, beautifully sustained finish.

Clean and mineral, this is quite serious with a dark, and rich layer of black fruits with liquorice, flint and graphite. I like the sleek cool suaveness of it, it's not shouting but is really well worked. More of a serious, less acidic style, but still vibrant and supple, well balanced and well presented. Round, softly juicy with bite. Harvest 12-29 September. Yield of 32hl/ha. Ageing in French oak for 15 months, 30% new. 6% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

The 2022 Mont-Perat Rouge is deep garnet-purple in color. It slips easily out of the glass with vibrant scents of black cherries, black raspberries, and kirsch followed by suggestions of fragrant earth and rose oil. The medium-bodied palate is bright and breezy, with soft tannins and a lifted finish.

With notes of flowers, blackberries, black currants, and black raspberries on the nose, you get a concentrated, round, dark-fruited, rich wine with more of those sweet, juicy black fruits in the finish along with a hint of chocolate and spicy espresso that comes in at the end of the finish. The wine blends 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2025-2035.

Very attractive, crunchy dark fruit with medium to full body and spiced, chocolatey character. Firm and structured with velvety tannins and a lingering finish. Plenty of currant and hazelnut character.
