Branaire Ducru, when pleasure meets elegance

How can we define the style of Branaire Ducru ? The first word that comes to mind is, finesse and elegance.

Patrick Maroteaux, François-Xavier’s father, considered the wines he produced were made for pleasure. The drinkability was key to him. "As wine producers, our greatest delight is giving Bordeaux wine lovers a lot of enjoyment" as he said.
Today, François-Xavier Maroteaux (owner) and Jean-Dominique Videau (Director and Winemaker)  share this same vision and wish the wines they produce to keep the specific style that comes from this superb terroir of Saint-Julien. 

Independently of the attachment that we can bear to this property and the people who embody it, we are convinced that the quality of the wines of Branaire Ducru is unbeatable at this price level.

The wine offers more fun than its elder brother. It is louder, while remaining faithful to the house signature and seeking excellence and purity.


The 2022 vintage

The winter of 2021–2022 is moderately rainy but allows good soil water recharge. The rather warm spring enables rapid vine development, and flowering takes place under favorable dry conditions. June is well supplied with several storms, allowing useful water reserves to be replenished before the establishment of persistently dry conditions. Summer is marked by several strong heat waves, with increasingly significant water stress. Grape berries are very small, seeds are well ripened, and phenolic potential is high. All grape varieties show strong success, producing very expressive wines.


Tasting notes 

The nose, already complex and expressive, offers beautifully ripe fruit, enhanced by fresher notes and delicate spicy notes.

The attack on the palate is full and round. The wine develops on well-integrated tannins, with beautiful depth and pleasant smoothness.

The whole is well balanced by a liveliness that lasts right through to the finish.
