Penfolds, Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon - Coonawarra 2019
Bin 169, the specificity of Coonawara with the Penfolds signature.
Born of a pioneering spirit in 1844, Penfolds has manifested a lasting legacy of patience, commitment, courage and passion. It is are the proud product of its great winemaking past, of its founders Mary and Christopher Penfold who brought grapes to the bountiful Australian soil and sunshine, and its innovative greats; Alfred Vesey, Ray Beckwith and Max Schubert, celebrated winemaking legends who pushed liquid development to extraordinary new heights. It is with this pioneering spirit and curiosity from its custodian winemakers that this still rings true after nearly two centuries. Penfolds honours and celebrates these traditional winemaking values, as it cultivates great new traditions for next generations. Today, 175 years on, this legacy continues and the house remains one of Australia’s most revered … now and ‘evermore’.
BIN 169 was created to reflect a contemporary winemaking approach, emphasising both regionality and maturation of cabernet sauvignon in fine grained French oak. While the inaugural release of BIN 169 dates back to 1973, it waited 35 years before being re-released in 2008. Bin 169 style is immediately Penfolds, whilst simultaneously illustrative of its ongoing search for diversity and style separation. It is a classic reflection of the region and a testament of Penfolds longstanding commitment to the vineyards of Coonawarra.

“A very different disposition to all other Penfolds 2019 offerings – this vintage release certainly speaks selectively and sensitively to this region’s soils and climate. After just over a decade following inaugural release, this wine does the region proud – cabernet and Coonawara, the Penfolds way.”
