Pastourelle de Clerc Milon - Pauillac 2019
Pastourelle de Clerc Milon, a second wine that takes the lead.
The name Pastourelle refers to a traditional dance between a knight and a shepherdess, beautifully evoked on the label by dancers inspired by the Commedia dell’Arte. This delicate miniature, crafted in gold, enamel, and pearls, once belonged to Catherine II of Russia and symbolises Baroness Philippine de Rothschild’s deep love of theatre.
A Grand Cru Classé, Château Clerc Milon extends over 41 hectares in the northeast of Pauillac, on the Mousset hillside, where an ideal microclimate fosters exceptional viticulture. Its sandy gravel soils over a clay-limestone subsoil provide the perfect foundation for wines of both elegance and depth.
Made from the same vines and with the same meticulous care as the Grand Vin, Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is hand-harvested in small crates, vinified in the Château Clerc Milon winery, and aged in barrels using time-honoured techniques. Since its creation in 2009, this distinguished second wine has earned its place among Pauillac’s finest, mirroring the refinement and richness of its elder sibling.
The 2019 vintage :
The year 2019 began with a warm and dry winter, marked by a record 24.7°C on February 27, advancing the vine cycle. A cool spring slowed this progression, bringing flowering back to its usual dates. June was contrasting with freshness, rain, and warmth, while July and August were sunny and hot, with beneficial rainfall preventing dehydration.
The harvest, from September 19 to October 9, took place under good conditions, ensuring impeccable grape quality.
It has a garnet color with violet reflections and a charming, generous nose with notes of red fruits, almond paste, and vanilla. The attack is smooth and aromatic, with crunchy and structured tannins. The long and elegant finish is subtly tinged with dark chocolate.
