Malescot Saint Exupery - Margaux 2022
Malescot Saint-Exupéry, ever higher
"Semper Ad Altum: latin expression which means "Ever higher"
Château Malescot St-Exupéry owes its name to two former owners: Simon Malescot, a royal councillor to the Bordeaux parliament, who acquired the estate in 1697, and Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, who owned it from 1827 to 1853.
In June 1955, Paul Zuger and his son, Roger, purchased the château, located in the heart of Margaux. Since 1994, Jean-Luc Zuger, son of Roger Zuger, has managed the property.
Today, after more than sixty years of unstinting efforts, Malescot St-Exupéry’s coat of arms, "Semper Ad Altum", has never been truer. Malescot due to its small size - 28 hectares - is today one of the smallest Grands Crus Classés 1855, but also one of the closest to its original terroir of 1697.
The 2022 vintage
A deep and frank color. A pure and fresh nose where a combination of black fruits and white pepper underlines a breadth of textures and flavors. With an outstanding persistence on the palate, coupled with a precise acidity, the 2022 reveals a pas de deux between melted tannins and a silky structure.
The desire to pick the merlots ripe, to leave time for the cabernets to ripe, has made it possible to preserve a sparklig freshness, a clarity of the fruit and the specificity of the terroir.
