Malescot Saint Exupery - Margaux 2022

After bottling, the floral and fruity aromas are much more vibrant, with much less oak influence compared to En Primeur tasting. As one of the latest harvest winery in the Margaux, Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry’s in 2022 displays incredible concentration and tannin structure. Fortunately, the clarity from the hawthorn and cherry juice softened the palate, preventing the wine from becoming completely unbalanced. Léa said that 2022 is their best vintage to produce, but I still feel the tannins’ extraction is slightly overdone, and the finish carries the trace of “dried grapes.” Maybe after 15 years of aging, it will show more promise, but as it stands now, it’s not particularly enjoyable.

Aromas of sweet blackberries, espresso roast, petals and toasty oak introduce the 2022 Malescot St. Exupery, a medium to full-bodied, rich but lively wine with a ripe core of jammy fruit, supple tannins and a slightly evolved finish. This appears to have lost a touch of precision during élevage.

This is very good, intense, great concentration and grip, rose buds, damson, tension, grip and personality. A wine that I can often find overpowering, but it is thoroughly enjoyable in this vintage. Léa Zuger owner, Michel Rolland consultant.

Spicy red and black currants, leafy tobacco, spicy wood, loamy earth, and some sappy floral notes emerge from the 2022 Château Malescot Saint Exupéry, an incredibly complex, pure, elegant 2022 that has polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, drink this incredibly impressive, satisfying Margaux over the coming two decades.

The 2022 Malescot Saint Exupéry has a delineated bouquet featuring crisp and airy blackberry, raspberry and light iris flower scents. It's quite Burgundian in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a gentle grip and slightly darker fruit than at primeur. Like the nose, it's mineral-driven with a dash of spice toward the finish. There is an endearing purity about this Margaux, and it should drink well for 15 to 20 years. This is very fine.

Plenty of blackcurrant and blueberry character here with cedar and sandalwood undertones that give such interest. Medium- to full-bodied, this has integrated tannins and a long and linear finish. Racy at the end. Classy. Give this three or four years to slightly soften, but it’s already a joy to taste. Drink after 2029.

The 2022 Malescot Saint Exupéry is a potent, strapping Margaux, as it always is. Firm tannins enshroud a core of black fruit, scorched earth, tobacco, incense, gravel and graphite. There's certainly plenty of depth, but it lost some freshness in élevage. I liked this more _en primeur_.

Intensely perfumed and fragrant on the nose, supple and succulent, really quite juicy and highly acidic with both a dark blackcurrant and red cherry juiciness, tannins are nicely present, filling but with a great texture and this has a nice overall brightness and vibrancy that some don't have. I really like this, feels elegant and nicely detailed, soft, really not trying too hard. Will be for easier drinking than some but nice. A yield of 30hl/ha. Harvest 19 September - 5 October. Ageing in French oak for 12- 14 months, 70% new.

During my first tasting in Château, the scent of oak barrels was quite prominent and had not yet been fully integrated. Upon a subsequent tasting, the floral and fruity scents were much more pronounced. As one of the latest harvest wineries in the Margaux appellation, Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry 2022 boasts a concentration beyond imagination. Fortunately, the wine is softened with the freshness of cranberry and cherry juice, thereby presenting a relatively balanced aftertaste.

The 2022 Malescot Saint Exupéry was picked from 19 September until 5 October, stopping over two weekends as it rained. Every parcel contributed fruit to the Grand Vin and there is 14.5% alcohol. Raised in 70% new oak with most of the malo done in barrel, it has a fragrant bouquet with red cherries, raspberry coulis, blueberry and violet scents. The palate has a well-defined entry with sour cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and touches of marmalade. Not powerful, but harmonious with a silky texture, this is a precision-tooled Margaux that will give 20 to 30 years of drinking pleasure.

Deep crimson. Intense liquorice, dark cherry, blackcurrant aromas. Sweet blackcurrant pastille, dark cherry, cacao flavorus, fine bittersweet tannins and well balanced ceadr comeplexity. Very good volume and mineral length. (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petiot Verdot)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Malescot St. Exupery comes barreling out of the glass with bold notions of black raspberries, blackcurrant jelly, and fresh, juicy plums, followed by wafts of violets, cinnamon stick, and forest floor. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely laden with black and red berry layers, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This is very pretty!

The 2022 Château Malescot Saint Exupéry is gorgeous and certainly a Margaux worth seeking out. Dense purple-hued, with a rich, powerful bouquet of ripe black fruits, melted chocolate, smoked tobacco, and spice, it picks up a beautiful floral character with air, is full-bodied, and has a layered, opulent mouthfeel as well as a great finish. It shows the vintage's building yet velvety tannins and is going to warrant just 4-5 years or more of bottle age, but it's a brilliant wine in the making.

The 2022 Malescot Saint Exupéry is dense, powerful and voluptuous. Black cherry, mocha, espresso, licorice and chocolate are all amplified. In 2022, Malescot is quite the extrovert. These days Malescot is not as classic as it used to be, but this is a good showing, even if the alcohol comes through a touch. Drinking window : 2027-2047

Black, blue and red fruits, tobacco leaf, flowers, and coffee bean, with a hint of cocoa create the nose. Lively red and black fruits, with hints of chocolate show in the round, full-bodied, deep wine. The lengthy finish is all about its layers of sweet, ripe, dark red berries, energy and chocolately, espresso in the mid-palate and end notes. The wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. 14.5% ABV, 3.65. Harvesting took place September 19 - October 5. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2027-2050.

Offering up aromas of rich blackberries, cassis, sweet spices, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, the 2022 Malescot St. Exupery is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a broad attack that segues into a layered core of expressive fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, this is one of the appellation's most flamboyant wines, but it retains good balance and boasts a healthy pH of 3.55.
