Madame de Beaucaillou - Haut-Médoc 2021

Ducru-Beaucaillou, love of the land and hedonism

For 300 years, six families have nurtured an indelible bond with Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. They are forever captives of this prestigious estate; the Desjean, Bergeron, Ducru, Johnston, Desbarat, or finally the Borie's families were never short of praise for it. Today, the resident owner Bruno-Eugène Borie, 3rd generation at the helm of the estate, cultivates the lands of this 2nd Classified Growth in 1855 and his French art of living with passion and rigour.

Madame de Beaucaillou, a tribute to Madame Eugène-Borie.

This new wine comes from our vineyards located in the Haut-Médoc; plots brought by Madame Eugène-Borie on her marriage and more recently by the acquisition of plots from Madame Fort-Pradère.
A tribute to the woman who chaired the Supervisory Board from 1998 and until this year 2020, but also to an attentive and to
the muse. The opportunity to put the spotlight on this great lady who, out of discretion and humility, was content to stay in the shadows. Gently, calmly, her image will join the long line of female owners of Ducru-Beaucaillou, equally inspiring and demanding. All of them had an essential role in the rise to fame of Ducru-Beaucaillou. Strength and grace…

Madame de Beaucauillou is an invitation but also an introduction to the Borie signature, to the philosophy of the house. A reasonable price for an ambitious wine.

2021 vintage, authentic wines

For 2021, the teams were once again servants to the forces and the wills of Mother Nature reminded them of her power. This season, the most crucial elements was to be close to the plant and its ecosystem. Their goal was to help nature to produce the best of herself. The result of these efforts is a portfolio of exciting wines that have genuine authenticity and a sens of place. With modest alcohol levels (12,5%) and pitch-perfect acidities, the wines of 2021 are contemporary classics. Theses wines fully express their respective terroirs; the vineyards gave their DNA and distinctive signatures in 2021!

2021 Madame de Beaucaillou, Enthusiastic

Deep violet with a burst of red fruits, currents, cherry, a wisp of fresh flowers, and a hint of vanilla and spice. The palate is fruity and fresh with marked but caressing tannins, a generous mid-palate, and a long, juicy finish. Pretty, fresh, and enthusiastic.

The 2021 Madame de Beaucaillou is terrific. Bold and savory, with gorgeous fruit presence, the 2021 turned out beautifully. Crushed flowers, spice, mint and a touch of orange peel all grace this exquisite Haut-Médoc. This is a stellar wine from the Borie

Madame looks like she will drink early and do her utmost to impress.  The 14% Petit Verdot adds liquorice and spice, breaking up the silky fruit sexiness and faint exoticism. This is a surprisingly layered and juicy wine, bearing in mind it is only 12.5% alcohol, and I am confident that restaurants will queue up to list her on their cartes des vins.  16.5

The 2021 Madame De Beaucaillou, which comes from the Haut-Médoc, checks in as 71% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Petit Verdot. It's a little gem of a Bordeaux offering ripe red and blue fruits, notes of spice, leafy herbs, and violets, medium body, and a fresh, lively, delicious profile to drink over the coming 7-8 years.

Medium-deep crimson. Intense elderberry, cassis aromas with dark chocolate notes. Richly concentrated inky wine with abundant elderberry brambly flavours, sinewy/ leafy tannins and savoury oak notes. Very chewy, but slightly extractive wine.

Earthy, spicy red fruits, with hints of tobacco leaf on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, forward, fresh, soft, short and sweet, this is going to be delicious on release and over the next decade or so. Drink from 2023-2031. 88-90

The 2021 Madame de Beaucaillou, cropped at 27 to 30hL/ha, has a pure, ripe raspberry and blackberry bouquet. The palate is well balanced with firm tannins and a little rigid on the entry, offering fine salinity and a touch of black pepper toward the somewhat burly finish.

The 2021 Madame de Beaucaillou is gorgeous. Dark, fresh, vibrant and appealing, the 2021 is an absolute delight to taste. Bright acids run through a core of black cherry, plum, spice, tobacco and gravel, adding energy. The blend this year includes quite a bit more Petit Verdot than normal, which adds to the wine's savory presence.

71% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 20% Neuholz.

From 50 hectares of vineyards in Listrac and Cussac, the 2021 Madame de Beaucaillou offers up aromas of dark berries, rich spices and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and charming palate that's underpinned by tangy acids. It's a Merlot-dominant blend complemented by 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Petit Verdot. Around one-third of the production was sold off in bulk to guarantee the quality of the assemblage. Some blackcurrant liqueur touches with perfumed aromatics. Smooth and round, this shows weight on the tongue with richness in terms of the blackcurrant and black cherry flavours. A lovely concentration and persistence with freshness at the end. No hollow mid-palate, really giving a consistency that goes all the way through. A soft chew from the tannins and tangy acidity, but all presented with refinement. Appealing and approachable, but still with intensity.
