Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
byJane Ansonthe5/16/2023
Beautifully fresh aromatics, this is a big wine, full of depth and velvety plush texture, rich mouthfeel through the mid palate, with a mix of red and black fruits along with mandarin peel and pomegranate that add freshness. Careful precision, juicy expression of the fruit, this draws out through the palate with sappy tannins and a touch of astringency on the finish. The viticulture, as you would expect here, was precise and informed by their long experience in California, no trimming, with high canopy for the shading, with as little interference as possible (they say 'don't demand too much of the vine in these kind of vintages'). 38hl/h yields, helped by vines with an average age of 60 years, 65% new oak, 15 different forests, 24ha estate. No added acidity. 20th anniversary vintage of the Seillan and Jackson family at Lassegue, first year as Grand Cru Classé. 3.67ph, harvest 15 to October1. Nicolas Seillan now director.
