Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Lalande-Borie has a tightly wound bouquet, well-defined but yanking on the leash—blackberry and pine cone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite supple in the mouth with well-judged acidity, appreciable density and a very classically-driven finish that has just the right amount of dryness to urge another sip. This is a well-crafted Saint Julien that should offer a decade's worth of pleasure. Tasted January 2016.

A juicy and savory red with spice, earth, mushroom and berry character. Full body, round tannins and a fruity finish. Extremely well done. One of the best in years! Better in 2017.

Dominated by Cabernet, this is a fruity wine with attractive acidité, black-currant flavor, and a high bright fruitiness. Balanced and structured, the wine is elegant as well as fruity. - R.V.

This 30 hectare property made an approachable, balanced red this year. The wine offers supple texture and wonderful ripe blackberries and sweet plum notes. This vintage shows a gentle, light touch with moderate extraction and freshness.

(53% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 7% cabernet franc; 5 g/l total acidity, pH 3.7; IPT 65; 13% alcohol; 30% new oak):  Bright ruby-red.  Blackcurrant, violet and a whiff of graphite on the nose and palate.  Leanish, juicy and penetrating, offering good flavor intensity and cut.  Not especially complex but classic and clean, and very easy to drink.  This should offer plenty of early appeal and will likely represent excellent value.

The Lalande Borie is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 53% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc delivering 13.10% alcohol and an IPT of 65. It has a sweet, ripe, clearly Merlot driven bouquet with small dark cherries and cassis aromas. The palate is medium-bodied and quite voluptuous for the vintage, with a succulent rounded, sensual finish that is more like a 2009 in style, but it needs more tension on the finish. Tasted April 2013.

The pomegranate, chalk, cherry and bitter plum notes are fresh, with cut and sinew, capped off by a bright, floral-edged finish. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.

Slightly herbaceous, but well-made with lots of black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of damp earth and spice, this blend of 60% Merlot and the rest mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with about 2% Cabernet Franc is supple and medium-bodied, but it narrows out in the mouth and finishes somewhat abruptly. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.Drink: 2013 - 2021

Drink 2020-2030Bright crimson. Not much nose. Easy, sweet and really rather like the Fourcas-Borie (Listrac) tasted immediately beforehand. A bit tough on the end. Bruno Borie thinks the sweetness comes from all the work in the vineyard in the summer and the vital task of sorting.
