There is always an air of grandeur about this reasonably priced wine. It borrows so much from its parents is cannot fail to exhibit genuine class, and this trait is clearly on display in the 2021 vintage. The colour is not as deep as in the hotter years, but there is a density of crimson-hued fruit in the centre of the glass that promises intensity of flavour, and it doesn’t disappoint. There is elegance countered with intensity, and the control and flair are unmistakable. This is a superb Lacoste-Borie. 17.5

Perfumed and nicely polished second wine of Grand-Puy-Lacoste with pretty sandalwood, blackberry and currant notes. Some fresh herbs and mocha, too. Nicely framed with fleshy tannins. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot and 8% cabernet franc.

Medium-deep colour. Fresh redcurrant cedar chinotto aromas and flavours. Well concentrated palate with ample red and black fruits, roasted coffee/ espresso notes, fine cedary textures and integrated fresh acidity. Finishes firm and long. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot, 8% cabernet franc.

Bright red currants and leafy herbs with a touch of thyme are found on the nose. The palate is bright, crisp and peppery, with a savory edge to the chewy, red fruits in the finish. Drink from 2023-2033. 88-90

The 2021 Lacoste-Borie has a light, slightly tertiary bouquet of brambly red fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and a touch of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins on the entry, moderate weight and a cedar-infused finish. Classic Bordeaux that will need just two or three years in bottle.

Nez floral, des notes de violette, de cassis avec un boisé fondu frais. Boisé, grillé, bois blond pour une bouche tannique mais manquant d'élégance.

The 2021 Lacoste-Borie is a supple, charming wine, bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, berries, licorice and spices. Medium-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with melting tannins and a generous core of fruit, it will drink well on release. It's a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc.

Lovely classic Cabernet typicity on the palate, the green pepper, the eucalyptus, liquorice, crushed stone and such freshness and mintiness. This has power and structure, it’s clearly intense and concentrated but the tannins are so well executed. The acidity gifts lift while the other elements settle on the tongue, really pronounced, filling the mouth. This is seductive, no wallflower with satin tannins. A blockbuster of a second wine here. One of the more potent and powerful second wines but with excellent capacity to give enjoyment, screaming: 'drink me!'.
