One of those wines that offers impressive quality at a price that most people can afford, this is a claret drinker’s Pauillac. Fresh and subtle, but with rounder tannins than the equally enjoyable 2011, this has flavours of spice, chocolate and blackcurrant, chiseled acidity and subtle oak. Drink: 2018-26

Tasted twice with consistent notes, the 2012 Lacoste Borie, a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, has a lifted, seaweed scented bouquet with fine definition, although it is not a complex bouquet. The palate is nicely balanced with fine, grainy tannins. This is an understated Pauillac, one that is finely tuned with an appealing, silky finish that lingers long in the mouth, although it just fades on the finish. Tasted April 2013.

A perennial over-achiever with stunning complexity, generosity and crisp, invigorating tannins.

Vin coloré, au nez un peu vif, à la bouche savoureuse, de corps moyen et un brin fluide dans la persistance.
