Jeroboam Château Canon - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1998 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48

Winter: Mild Spring: April colder than the seasonal norm, rainy. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Flowering: From May 27 Summer: Good weather, temperatures increase over the months. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Harvests: are carried out entirely manually. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 A double selection is made: The first at the time of cutting, directly in the vines, then the second on the sorting table. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Due to the rain that occurred in September, the harvest started from the end of the morning in order to avoid dew and excess humidity. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation in thermo-regulated oak vats. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Maceration for 18 to 23 days in underground stainless steel vats and barrels. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Aged in barrels for 18 to 20 months. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 70% new barrels. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Slow racking every three months, fining with fresh egg whites 6 months before bottling, no filtration. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48

Good colour. A little four-square on the nose. Good tannin but not enough richness to the fruit. Ripe on the palate though. Full body. Some tannin. Good acidity. Just a touch rigid at present but it has good length and depth. A wine for food. very good plus. 2005-2020.

Some maturity, quite blackcurranty Merlot flavour, nicely lifted fruit, typical Saint-Emilion, not complex. To 2012.

(71% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc): Mitteldunkles Granat, feiner Rand.

Made in an elegant, restrained, subtle but interesting style, the dark ruby-colored 1998 Canon offers a sweet nose of crushed stones intertwined with flowers, red and black fruits, and moderate tannin. An attractive, charming, mid-weight effort, it will be at its finest between 2002-2015.

Violet, berry and cherry aromas. Full-bodied, with fine, succulent tannins and a medium finish. Well-crafted. Better than from barrel. Best after 2005.

Reasonably impressive, this wine possesses a dark ruby color with purple nuances. Attractive aromas and flavors of cherries, black currants, minerals, and sous-bois (underbrush) compete for the taster's attention. The wine reveals excellent ripeness, medium body, and the tell-tale elegance and restraint for which this property is known. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.

The new owners have been struggling to get this beautifully-placed vineyard back on track, and the 1998 is a reassuring effort. While not profound, it is very good with a dark ruby color, sweet mineral and black cherry aromas, medium body, excellent purity, and a fresh, vibrant, elegant style. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2012.
