Grand Puy Lacoste - Pauillac 2021
The history of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is fascinating in many ways. It is a family saga going back to the 16th century.
The name Grand-Puy, already mentioned in documents from the Middle Ages, comes from the ancient term "puy” which means "hillock, small height”. True to its name, the vineyard sits on outcrops with a terroir similar to that of the Médoc's first growths. From Since the 16th century the property remained attached to a single family from generation to generation, in a direct line through marriage until 1920, before connecting with another family in 1978—the Borie.
François-Xavier Borie, the present owner, is behind this superb estate’s renaissance. He launched the complete renovation of the facilities, the last step of which was the construction of a new large barrel cellar as well as a grape reception area equipped with the latest grape sorting techniques. He has made major investments and constantly improved the quality of Grand-Puy-Lacoste in order to reflect all the finesse of its great Pauillac terroir
The 2021 vintage, refinement and smoothness
Emeline Borie tells you about this vintage: https://bit.ly/GrandPuyLacoste2021
Once again Grand Puy Lacoste 2021 is made up from a great majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, (85%) which is responsible for its impressive texture and the expression of our fine terroir.
The wine has a deep ruby colour. The nose is of red fruit, violets, vanilla and spices. On the palate the wine is clean, dense and fresh. The floral and red fruit notes knit with the soft and ripe tannins. Overall the effect is of a wine with elegance, charm and vitality, leading to a pure and persistent finish.
In this 2021 we have all the style and quality to be found in fine vintages of Grand Puy Lacoste where our refined fruit combines with stylish smooth tannins. This vintage is also distinguished by a balance of alcohol and acidity different from
its three predecessors, returning to a more moderate alcohol level, similar to the majority of previous vintages of Grand Puy Lacoste which have had class and balance, and given great drinking pleasure.
