Giodo - La Quinta - Toscana IGT 2023

Alberelli di Giodo – Etna Meets Tuscan Tradition

The story of Giodo in Montalcino begins in 2002, when Carlo Ferrini, a renowned Italian oenologist, acquired a hectare in the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino appellation. This acquisition marked the start of an exciting journey and challenge, fulfilling a long-held passion. The name "Giodo" honors his parents, Giovanna and Donatello.

Today, the Giodo estate covers 5.5 hectares between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo. Carlo Ferrini planted clones of Sangiovese that he found the most promising. The heart of the vineyard (2.5 ha) is dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino, while newer plots produce "La Quinta," a Toscana IGT (3 ha).

La Quinta ages for 12 months in 700-liter oak barrels, as well as in 2,500-liter oak casks and 2,700-liter "cocciopesto" amphorae.

The two Giodo labels feature a human icon and a circle, symbolizing "Sangiovese" and the world of wine, respectively. On the Brunello label, the figure is within the circle, representing the exclusive use of Sangiovese in crafting this wine.

Another typically brilliant wine from Carlo and Bianca Ferrini and their (small) team at Giodo that is likely to prove exceptional value for money. Tasted at Vinexpo and then again from a sample provided by the property, with similar notes. This is meatier, spicier and altogether richer than the Terre Siciliane wine from the upper slopes of Etna. But it’s still defined by that Ferrini/Giodo signature freshness, litheness and crystallinity. Rosehip. Tomato ketchup – homemade from fresh Italian tomatoes – with bright red and darker berry fruits. Redcurrant. A little sour cherry note too and a scratch of cinnamon on the micro-plane grater. Black tea leaf. Sapid and juicy and oh so fresh! The textural complexity comes from the freshness. Intensely quaffable!
