Sweet and ripe currants with dark cherries, too. Floral and perfumed. Medium-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a fresh, vivid finish. Second wine of Pedesclaux. 67% merlot, 27% cabernet sauvignon and 6% petit verdot. Drink after 2025.

Blackberry fruits, brambled hedgerows, a great vintage in Pauillac, and a year when it makes sense to look at 2nd wines. This has improved for me since I tasted it En Primeur, with more depth and grip to the fruits, and a touch of bitter chocolate shavings adding depth to the sweet cedar of the oak (the wine is aged in 30% new barrels). No need to wait too long, it will be at its best in another year or two, and will hold for a further five or six.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Fleur de Pedesclaux offers up expressive notes of baked plums, boysenberries and warm red and black cherries with touches of bouquet garni, black olives and truffles. Medium-bodied, the palate is chock-full of juicy black fruits, framed by ripe grainy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing long with lovely purity.

The 2019 Fleur de Pédesclaux has an impressive bouquet for a Deuxième Vin with a surfeit of cranberry and raspberry fruit, almost sorbet like. The palate is sweet on the entry, quite spicy with Chinese 5-spice and cracked black pepper notes that leave the tongue tingling long after the wine has departed. Maybe it lacks the finesse of the aromatics on the finish, yet it constitutes a decent second wine.

Appealing aromatics and initial attack, with sweet oak mixed with well-brushed tannins and soft bramble fruits. Easy to approach and this is definitely a more gentle Pauillac that should be ready within two to three years. A little tart through the finish. 3.8pH, 30% new oak. Drinking Window 2023 - 2036
