To preserve its refreshing acidity, Château de Fieuzal began harvesting as early as August 18th. While the aroma of this vintage may not be particularly complex, scents of yellow peach, apricot, and beeswax are remarkably refined. Despite the overall acidity not being particularly prominent, Château de Fieuzal 2022 cleverly balances with a pH value of 3.3 and a savory finish with hints of saltiness, demonstrating the winemaker’s exceptional skills in all aspects.

The 2022 de Fieuzal meets all expectations, unfurling with a perfumed bouquet of violet, iris, dark wild berries and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered, it gains depth with the élevage, revealing a fleshy core of fruit and an enrobing mid-palate framed by velvety, sweet tannins. Finishing long, ethereal and fresh, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot is one of my favorite wines in Pessac-Léognan. It will offer a broad drinking window and should improve with time in the cellar.

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Château De Fieuzal is beautifully elegant, with a deep ruby/plum hue and a perfumed nose of red and black cherries, sappy herbs, and floral nuances. Medium-bodied and balanced on the palate, it has ripe yet polished tannins and a silky texture. It’s not a blockbuster and shines for its balance and purity. It will age gracefully over the coming 10-15 years.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Le sens du détail, de l'exactitude, de la subtilité pose les jalons quant à la définition de Fieuzal 2022. Le vin ne se soucie guère du millésime, il a pour seul et unique focus son terroir, avec pour mission de le valoriser, de le souligner. Même dans sa tentation d'opulence, il se remet rapidement sur les rails, lui- même, afin de préserver le crescendo qu'il est à même de mettre en avant au fil des minutes. Ainsi, les nuances d'eucalyptus, de cassis, ne cèdent la scène que si des effluves plus pertinents se manifestent, à l'image de notes de pivoines, de graphite, de groseilles. En bouche, le vin a un focus dédié à la fraîcheur, la finesse, la rigueur et la précision. Il crée le lien entre douceur et austérité, entre ampleur et vigueur, entre délice et défi. Un vin sapide, salivant, authentique, qui saura combler de nombreux palais au fil des décennies à venir. Il ne brille pas de ce qu'il pourrait être, mais de ce qu'il est en mesure d'assumer à 100 % ! Pour ma part, certainement le plus grand Fieuzal qu'il m'a été donné de goûter. 2027-2047 97/100

The 2022 Château de Fieuzal has a perfumed, well-defined and complex bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry, gravel and juniper scents. I like the coolness of the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a keen line of acidity. It's a more structured de Fieuzal than other vintages, but there is sufficient freshness and delineation on the spicy finish. Give this four to five years in bottle.

Stemmy herbs with perfumed flowers, spices, morello cherries and baked citrus. Fresh and round with medium body and soft, fine-grained tannins. Long, plump and refined in the finish. Drink from 2026.

In the vintage of 2022, while most were increasing the proportion of Merlot, Château de Fieuzal chose to enhance the Cabernet Sauvignon component to 50%. Intriguingly, more Cabernet didn't amplify the concentration, instead, it introduced a hint of refreshing clarity. The ever-present hallmark of Fieuzal is the aromatic charm of juicy fruit - a single glass seems to contain a hundred pounds of cherry juice and twice as much strawberry. With a swirl of the glass, the notes of rhubarb jam and pine resin become increasingly distinct, making it delightfully drinkable even at the En Primeurs stage.

Que d'intensité, de fruit et de définition dans le bouquet de Fieuzal. Cette propriété continue son bonhomme de chemin vers les sommets avec une évidente envie de non seulement les atteindre mais surtout d'y rester ! Le vin est friand, juteux, linéaire et, surtout, très harmonieux. Très belle corrélation entre es tannins juteux et une acidité structurante et vive. La salinité de la finale plébiscite la fraicheur et la persistance. A nouveau une très belle réussite.

The 2022 Château De Fieuzal is brilliant, and this estate deserves more attention in the market today. Ripe red and black fruits, spring flowers, leafy tobacco, and loamy earth all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a supple, layered, elegant mouthfeel and a great finish. I love its overall balance, and this could be a real superstar in the vintage. 92-94+

Flowers, cigar wrapper, pepper, cedar, cocoa, spice, and red with black currants open the nose. On the medium-bodied palate, initially you notice the freshness in the ripe, sweet, cherries, with their elegance, lift and purity. There is a symmetry, and vibrancy in the fruits, finishing with a shot of licorice, cocoa, and plums that stick with you. The wine blends 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. 13.2% ABV. Yields were 32 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2025-2045.

The cumulative rainfall at Château Fieuzal was only 385 millimeters in 2022, compared to 753 millimeters in 2021 and 743 millimeters in 2020. But this did not prevent Stephen Carrier and his team from making a fresh and energetic 2022 de Fieuzal, bursting with aromas of violet, iris, menthol and crunchy wild berries mingled with hints of coniferous forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, it's pristinely balanced and beautifully layered, exhibiting a vibrant palate that's deep, tensile and elegant, concluding with a mouthwateringly mineral finish. This estate is achieving things no one would have thought possible a decade ago. 94 - 96+
