Favia, Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon - Oakville 2021
NEW WINE! VERY LIMITED QUANTITIES
Favia Winery, the passion of Annie Favia and Andy EricksonFavia Winery was founded in 2001 as a partnership between Annie Favia and her husband Andy Erickson. Annie is a passionate viticulturist and a true nature lover whereas Andy is a highly regarded winemaker in Napa who serves as a consultant for prominent wineries. Located in Coombsville, Napa Valley, their philosophy is straightforward: crafting soulful wines that genuinely reflect the unique character of the vineyards they originate from.
The blocks owned by Favia at Oakville Ranch — high above the eastern edge of the Valley, organically farmed on red, rocky, iron- rich soils — have produced some of the most compelling wines in the area for many years. It is these red hill sides that continue to astound Annie and Andy year after year, the wines having such power, intensity, and strength of character.
The 2021 vintage:
The 2021 growing season fell in the middle of a multi-year drought in California. With very little winter and spring rain, the vines worked hard to develop canopies, and in the end set a relatively small crop. Luckily, summer temperatures were relatively mild, with only a couple of days with peak temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38C). This meant that the fruit was able to mature slowly, and fruit quality at harvest was balanced and concentrated. In fact, the ample sun exposure of the fruit led to remarkable phenolic development, with the grapes at harvest having very dark color and highly structured tannins.
Tasting notes:
Across the board, the 2021 wines from Favia show great depth, pleasant natural acidity, and strong varietal expression. The vintage shows all the power and richness expected from Napa Valley, and with a tannic backbone that will allow the wines to age for decades to come.
