The 2021 L'Esprit de Chevalier, a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc aged for 14 months in barrels, reveals a toasty, spicy bouquet with aromas of sweet berries, nuts, nicely integrated oak and smoke. Medium-bodied, juicy and well-balanced, it’s layered with structured tannins, a fleshy core of fruit and a fresh, vibrant finish.

Red currants, red cherries and a splash of white pepper, paprika and stones. Juicy and composed, with elegant red berries and soft, silky tannins. 50% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Shows some nice length. Lovely early appeal. Drink now.

The 2021 L'Esprit De Chevalier is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 25% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It has ripe, classic Graves aromatics of darker currants and black cherries as well as leafy herbs, gravelly earth, and tobacco. This medium-bodied, round, supple, elegant wine shows the fresher style of the vintage and should drink nicely right out of the gate.

Cigar wrapper, spice, forest floor, plums and the essence of smoke are found in the nose and in the medium-bodied, bright, fresh, red berry oriented palate. There is a nice crisp accent with hints of pepper and salinity on the mid-palate that you also enjoy in the finish. Drink from 2023-2029. 88-90

The 2021 L'Esprit de Chevalier has a tightly wound bouquet of blackberry and raspberry fruit permeated with traces of oyster shell; hints of sea spray emerge with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers graphite-infused black fruit, moderate weight, fine salinity and insistent grip and mineralité on the finish. Classic Pessac.
