An excellent effort from Domaine de Chevalier, this dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 exhibits smoky, tobacco-tinged, earthy scents intermixed with black currant and cherry fruit. There is impressive concentration, medium body, sweet tannin, and a supple, ripe finish. It should be ready to drink early, yet continue to develop further nuances and complexity for 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
