Clos Puy Arnaud (BIO-ORGANIC) - Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux 2024

Clos Puy Arnaud

Thierry Valette took over this property in April 2000 after the sale of Château Pavie in 1998.
From the beginning, thanks to his collaboration with Stéphane DERENONCOURT (2000/2005), the wine gained access to the Primeurs market. Little by little, the agrobiological approach became more evident. From 2006 onwards, trials in Biodynamics will begin, which will result in the entry into the Biodyvin Group. The aim of the estate is to go even further in the style that has been slowly developed over the years as the best possible translation of their terroir in this new climate.

The 2024 vintage

Marked by a contrasting climate—with a rainy spring that brought intense disease pressure, followed by a drier summer without excessive heat—biodynamics, and in particular horn silica (501), played a crucial role in bringing light to our vines, enhancing their balance and the quality of the grapes. Despite the difficult conditions, we were able to express the identity of Puy Arnaud’s terroirs more clearly than ever.

Vinification and tasting notes :

The late 2024 harvest allowed for gentle vinification to preserve the fruit’s integrity. The 2024 Grand Vin stands out for its freshness, balance, and aromatic complexity, with ripe fruit notes complemented by a lovely mineral tension. Its moderate alcohol level (13%), in line with current market preferences, encourages clean, swift fermentations that bring clarity and precision to the wine.
On the palate, the wine reveals a silky, elegant structure, and the distinctive acidity of Puy Arnaud’s limestone soils ensures excellent drinkability—promising a vintage that is both refined and effortlessly enjoyable.

Based on 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Clos Puy Arnaud Grand Vin reveals ripe red and black fruits, classy vanilla oak, and floral, spicy notes. Medium-bodied, it has a charming, forward, pure, satisfying style that will drink well right out of the gate.

Sehr delikat!

The 2024 Clos Puy Arnaud feels a bit exaggerated on the nose, as if overcompensating for the shortfalls of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with red cherry and strawberry fruit laced with orange zest, finishing in a fresh style that partly compensates for the aromatics. Hopefully it will improve in barrel.

The 2024 Clos Puy Arnaud is one of the revelations of the vintage. Deep, powerful and resonant, with no hard edges, the 2024 is positively stellar. Dark red fruit, blood orange, spice, pomegranate and rose petal stain the palate. Clos Puy Arnaud is without question one of the wines of this very challenging year. Considering that the property is 100% biodynamic, this performance, including yields of 45 hectoliters per hectare, is simply unreal. Élevage will be about 12 months in a combination of demi-muid, barrique, amphora and porcelain. The blend is 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot, quite a bit more Franc than usual.

The garrigue and floral notes in the nose, paired with the bright, chewy, fresh cherries and strawberries on the palate, produce a medium-bodied, crisp, vibrant red berry-filled wine. The wine blends 60% Merlot, and 40% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2034.

Now that’s a thrill! Take a look at how Clos Puy Arnaud makes wine – who said 2024 was lacking in sunlight or aroma? Here comes a beautiful counterattack: imagine a chilled bayberry infusion, sweet and tangy, floating with rose petals, dancing lightly in the glass. The palate is crisp and refreshing. Already slender in body, the wine feels even more elongated under the lift of high acidity. And that trace of classic powdered limestone on the finish? A firm declaration of its terroir-driven soul. This is exactly the kind of brilliance we hoped to see in 2024: a wine with clarity, precision, and style, every bit as compelling as any celebrated vintage.

A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Clos Puy Arnaud is a great effort this year, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, mulberries, flowers and pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, layered and lively, it's framed by structured tannins that conclude with a long, resonant finish. The vintage’s fresh acidity brings energy and appeal without compromising the wine’s underlying seriousness and almost classical austerity.

Vibrant ruby, purple reflections, broad rim brightening. Fresh red berry fruit, delicately leafy underneath, nuances of currant. Juicy, red cherry, racy acidity, very lively structure, lemon finish, stimulating companion at the table.
