Clos Puy Arnaud (BIO-ORGANIC) - Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux 2021

"Clos Puy Arnaud 2021 est le produit d’un millésime qui aura demandé une présence et une réactivité sans faille au vignoble. De plus, à la différence des derniers millésimes (2020 et 2019), il aura fallu reprendre des habitudes anciennes, à savoir : être patient et attendre les maturités nécessaires pour avoir un bel équilibre.

Au final, l’assemblage du Grand Vin est original : 50% cabernet franc, 45% merlot et 5% cabernet sauvignon pour un vin aux tanins très racés et affirmant la noblesse des cabernets francs sur plateau calcaire.

Ce sera un vin de garde dont le potentiel de vieillissement va être très intéressant à surveiller.

Comme l’évolution du climat va nous pousser à modérer à l’avenir le pourcentage de merlot sur nos vignobles, on peut dire que 2021 est un « test grandeur nature » de cette problématique. Nous anticipons cette évolution à Puy Arnaud depuis déjà quelque temps en réorientant nos nouvelles plantations en ce sens."

The 2021 Clos Puy Arnaud is a tough wine to taste. Imposing tannins are difficult to get past. It offers considerable intensity of fruit but is also one of the most unyielding, brutish wines of the year. Perhaps this will soften over time. We will see. In recent vintages, Clos Puy Arnaud has been a personal favorite. The 2021 growing season appears to have presented serious challenges.

The 2021 Clos Puy Arnaud is terrific, with a dense purple hue to go with impressive red and blue fruits as well as notes of integrated oak, flowers, and leafy herbs. Balanced, ripe, and textured, it's rock solid. The blend is 50% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. 88-90+

The 2021 Clos Puy Arnaud has a backward nose of blackberry and cassis fruit, just slightly stilted compared to others. The palate is medium-bodied with stringy tannins and a little chewy, leading to a muscular finish. Not bad, but it lacks a bit of finesse.
