Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 87 / 100 byStephen Tanzerthe8/31/2013 Bright dark red. Aromas of licorice, espresso and herbs, with a hint of blue fruits in the background. Nicely balanced but not especially rich or concentrated, with fresh dark berry flavors framed by harmonious acidity. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins and a hint of something green. Disappointing in the context of the vintage.
Wine Advocate 87 / 100 byRobert Parkerthe2/28/2013 Proprietor Alain Vauthier has turned out a solidly constructed wine that is dense purple in color and exhibits subtle smoke, graphite and blue and black fruits in a medium-bodied, relatively linear style. Drink it over the next decade.
Jamessuckling.com 92 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe2/17/2013 Purity of dark fruits such as blueberries and blackberries with hints of flowers. Full body, with silky tannins and a juicy finish. Chewy yet polished. Try in 2017.
Wine Advocate 94 / 100 byNeal Martinthe2/14/2013 Tasted at Chateau Ausone, the Moulin St Georges has a ripe blackberry and raspberry scented bouquet with touches of smoke and sous-bois – all very well defined but inward looking at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, ripe tannins. This is very well balanced with ample freshness and vitality, imbued with a superb crescendo of assertive red fruits on the beautifully controlled finish. Alain Vauthier has fashioned a superb Moulin St Georges that offer drinking pleasure over the next ten or fifteen years. Tasted November 2012
Wine Advocate 87-89 / 100 byRobert Parkerthe5/31/2011 2010: This wine’s tartness and high acids were surprising, but I was only able to taste it one time, so perhaps the barrel sample I saw was slightly off. Notes of licorice, blueberries and black currants are attractive, but the acid levels were sharp and distracting. This offering may have come out of malolactic fermentation very late and consequently, the wine is not easy to evaluate at present.
Asian Palate 93-95 / 100 byJeannie Cho Lee MWthe5/24/2011 The 2010 Moulin St. Georges has notes of roasted herbs, spices, plums, and blackberries, with expressive yet precise and layered flavours interlaced in a gorgeous intricate pattern. This is a very sophisticated, classy wine of velvety tannins and great clarity and depth. A phenomenal wine with a very long finish.
Le Point 15 / 20 byJacques Dupontthe5/12/2011 Fruits rouges, agrumes, bouche vive, élégante, très fraîche, longue, vive, assez concentrée. Assez original par son acidité et son côté citronné, devrait bien évoluer. O=2017 G=15 ans
Decanter Magazine 17 / 20 byJames Lawther MWthe4/30/2011 Tiny volume due to coulure. More structured than the '09. Crushed raspberry aroma but with a citrus-like freshness. Medium to full-bodied, smooth texture and tannins and line of acidity that masks the 14.5% alcohol. Long finish. Drink 2017-2028. (17 points)
TAST 16-17 / 20 by Bettane & Desseauvethe4/30/2011 Comme souvent, le cru possède un magnifique équilibre et une intensité d’une remarquable élégance. Gras, subtil et tendre, rondeur profonde, allonge charnue.
Jamessuckling.com 92-93 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe4/30/2011 This is crazy stuff with a super lively acidity and then plenty of fruit and alcohol. Minerally and fruity at the same time. Excellent purity. One of the best ever from here.
Wine Spectator 90-93 / 100 byJames Molesworththe4/30/2011 Bright linzer torte and red cherry fruit is laced with firm licorice and spice, with a pretty fruitcake note on the finish. Solid grip. —J.M.
